Asking for life advice (for my birthday)

I’m turning 25 in a few days. The advice can be about anything — any area of life — as long as it’s something that has proven true or useful in your own experience.
I’ve been asking for this kind of advice for a few years now, haha.

Advice 1. If you want to improve your English, don’t rely so much on chat gpt :slightly_smiling_face:

Advice 2. Keep showing up for the therapy, especially if you have BPD.

Happy birthday! (In advance)

To advice 1: honestly, I’ve got used to chatGPT so much, that it’s hard to not use translation function.. now I reply without chatGPT. Yeah, advice is good - every foreign language is helpful in life, if I want to improve, I need to use my own brain for that.

To advice 2: yeah definitely. My form is not very bad, as BPD is also a spectrum thing… But still, it will take lots of time to understand my emotions and why they sometimes control me. And improve, ofc.

Thanks, friend. :folded_hands: @Andrey

Happy birthday!

Choose which hill to die on, wisely.

Look both ways before crossing the street.

Don’t take any wooden nickels.

Never take someone else’s word about what your limits are. Find out for yourself as you may be pleasantly surprised.

Today I have so many thoughts about that my efforts may be meaningless. Like, what I mean by that is, no matter how hard I try it feels like I am stuck in the same place. Literally not going anywhere.
As an example, my brother is high non stop, parents drink alcohol everyday - and I am here fully sober, but today it feels like not meaningful thing at all. If it makes sense.
Your advices are beautiful and meaningful. Thanks, @shutterbug

Honestly, I know that I do the right thing by being sober, but sometimes I question this choice. Like… If no one really cares about my efforts - should I?

25 is still very young. I use to party, party, party till I was 38.. ..but in 25 years from know you’ll be 50 and will start to seriously think about retirement. My advice to you is to start saving and don’t stop. Make informed decisions. Happy early birthday wishes.

Advice: it is easier to gain new skills if you are able to see failure as a normal part of life. It is harder to gain new skills if you see failure as a horrible shame on your soul.

I said this once before, but it bears repeating. Stop focusing on your family of origin. Concentrate on your own life, in the here and now, and planning your future.

Invest in the relationships in your life, unless they are toxic. Put your family (including chosen family) at a very high priority in your life.

Every decision you make in life can have repercussions for the rest of your life. Even if they seem insignificant.

Ie. I got a gut feeling not to deal with my daughter’s father. I didn’t listen to that feeling and he ended up raping me and I got pregnant. I had to drop out of school college. I didn’t get to go to Madrid as an exchange student because of it. I think it altered the entire course of my life

I’m sorry you had to go through that experience, and it actually reminded me of something about my ex-boyfriend… From the very first day we met, I felt like I couldn’t trust him. I was also really afraid of getting pregnant by him — I even had this strong intuition again, like some kind of stop sign, something I couldn’t really explain, even though he’s not necessarily a bad person. Maybe one day I’ll have the answers as to why my intuition was telling me that.
@Loke
Well, our stories are very different — I just want to add that we probably must listen to our intuition.
