Are you conservative in your finances?

I am mostly conservative with my purchases, except in 2 areas:

  1. Since mid to late July of last year, I have become a bit obsessed with guitar related stuff and have spent considerable money on items related to guitars.

  2. Christmas, birthday, and mothers day, fathers day gifts. Especially Christmas where the last 2 years I have gone a bit hog wild.

I sometimes feel guilty when I make guitar related purchases, though.

Outside of these 2 areas I am reasonably responsible with my finances. I have investments and try to save some money each month. I don’t spend money on unnecessary items outside of the above 2 areas, generally. I only buy stuff I can use or need.

How are you with spending money? Do you go on frequent shopping sprees or do you scrimp and save? Or maybe somewhere in between.

The only thing I can splurge money on are supplements. I spend about 85€/ month on them.

My second bachelor’s degree also cost me about €20K.

So basically I can spend money on health and education. On other things I’m frugal.

Oh, also I make some purchases/donations in causes that I feel are justified. Like the Ukrainian stuff I recently purchase. I guess they arent really necessary either

I make around $30,000 a year. Enough where I won’t be eating out of garbage cans but i do have to watch my wallet.

I pretty much am only buying stuff I need right now as I have to pay cash. My credit is maxed out. Just stuff like food, medical, health insurance, medications, rent & utilities, clothes, personal care, and house cleaning supplies.

I get $26,098.80 a year.

Nope! lol. Im a spend thrift. Usually in the overdraft before payday. Amazon Lightening Deals usually get me.

Ive got 80 grand in an high interest account for 2 years tho. And the other 30 is in my Brother in Laws business account.

Its all managed by my sister and in their names, as per the wishes of my late mothers will.

If i want a bail out of cash, i need permisson. Which suits me fine.

That’s a nice amount of disability. How come that your credit is maxed out? Do you need support in managing your money?

I have medical and dental major expenses I paid on my credit cards. Oral surgery with a biopsy which Medicare insurance didn’t cover. Ambulance, emergency room, and hospital bills. I also paid the movers on my credit card to move me into my current apartment.

Edit - some of it was car repairs back when I had a car in 2020.

I hope you can get it sorted soon. At least these were one off costs and not recurring ones. That should help.

I have to be. I just do not have extra money to blow. Any time I get something that is expensive by my standards, it’s at tax time. Even then, we take care of bills first.

That’s how we have nice things and all paid off. We try to take good care of what we get.

If I but any extras during the year it is due to overtime or clearance/super sales/gifts.

For an example of what I consider extra- I just got some lotion at barh and body works for 75% off and a calendar from a favorite anime for $2. That was splurging.

I spend money on essentials such as gasoline, toiletries, food & sports drinks. I also pay bills such as electricity, natural gas, Internet, TV and smartphone plans. I do not pay rent or property taxes.

I do not go on frequent shopping sprees but rather accumulate my saved disposable income for special discounts such as Black Friday.

I am not super frugal.

I’ll gladly spend money for convenience.

But I’m good at not buying things I don’t need or use.

Still, I spend a lot for them.

Im very conservative with money, although I have had guitar equipment related splurges before (just to get it out of my system). Nowadays most of my splurges are saved for home and auto related upkeep.

I control my spending with a spreadsheet

It has all my bills contained, and as they go out I adjust it

This allows me to know how much I can spend or save

Before I was off for a lot of 2022 I had built up a fund

Sadly due to this it has diminished by quite some way

But it was a safety net that was needed at the time

The experiment of meds still is not over

I keep getting hints about my spending. I spend money easily. But I was at the grocery store last night looking for a lime and they were all out. I asked one of the clerks who was stocking the fruits and vegetables if they had any limes in back. He said they have organic limes but if I waited ten minutes they would put out some regular limes. I said that’s OK, I’ll just take an organic lime. The guy told me I should wait because an organic lime cost a dollar but regular limes are only 3 for a dollar. He seemed to make a big deal about the price difference but a dollar for a lime didn’t seem too extravagant. He looked at me kind of weird. WTF? I drop $4.00 on a Coke at Wendy’s without thinking twice. The lime situation really made me think. Am I blowing my money too easily?

I love spending money but I also love having money.

I gave all my savings which was $1000 to my x boyfriends gofundme.

I’ve been told I’m good with money.

I don’t have savings as such.
Only enough for a vet visit need it be.

I try to buy cruelty free vegan stuff.
