I am mostly conservative with my purchases, except in 2 areas:
Since mid to late July of last year, I have become a bit obsessed with guitar related stuff and have spent considerable money on items related to guitars.
Christmas, birthday, and mothers day, fathers day gifts. Especially Christmas where the last 2 years I have gone a bit hog wild.
I sometimes feel guilty when I make guitar related purchases, though.
Outside of these 2 areas I am reasonably responsible with my finances. I have investments and try to save some money each month. I don’t spend money on unnecessary items outside of the above 2 areas, generally. I only buy stuff I can use or need.
How are you with spending money? Do you go on frequent shopping sprees or do you scrimp and save? Or maybe somewhere in between.
Oh, also I make some purchases/donations in causes that I feel are justified. Like the Ukrainian stuff I recently purchase. I guess they arent really necessary either
I pretty much am only buying stuff I need right now as I have to pay cash. My credit is maxed out. Just stuff like food, medical, health insurance, medications, rent & utilities, clothes, personal care, and house cleaning supplies.
I have medical and dental major expenses I paid on my credit cards. Oral surgery with a biopsy which Medicare insurance didn’t cover. Ambulance, emergency room, and hospital bills. I also paid the movers on my credit card to move me into my current apartment.
Edit - some of it was car repairs back when I had a car in 2020.
I have to be. I just do not have extra money to blow. Any time I get something that is expensive by my standards, it’s at tax time. Even then, we take care of bills first.
That’s how we have nice things and all paid off. We try to take good care of what we get.
If I but any extras during the year it is due to overtime or clearance/super sales/gifts.
For an example of what I consider extra- I just got some lotion at barh and body works for 75% off and a calendar from a favorite anime for $2. That was splurging.
I spend money on essentials such as gasoline, toiletries, food & sports drinks. I also pay bills such as electricity, natural gas, Internet, TV and smartphone plans. I do not pay rent or property taxes.
I do not go on frequent shopping sprees but rather accumulate my saved disposable income for special discounts such as Black Friday.
I am now, but i still manage to overspend. I get universal credit basic and pip enhanced only daily living component. Its difficult to live on thats for sure
I havent been shopping in a long time except for food now and then fortnightly
Im very conservative with money, although I have had guitar equipment related splurges before (just to get it out of my system). Nowadays most of my splurges are saved for home and auto related upkeep.
I keep getting hints about my spending. I spend money easily. But I was at the grocery store last night looking for a lime and they were all out. I asked one of the clerks who was stocking the fruits and vegetables if they had any limes in back. He said they have organic limes but if I waited ten minutes they would put out some regular limes. I said that’s OK, I’ll just take an organic lime. The guy told me I should wait because an organic lime cost a dollar but regular limes are only 3 for a dollar. He seemed to make a big deal about the price difference but a dollar for a lime didn’t seem too extravagant. He looked at me kind of weird. WTF? I drop $4.00 on a Coke at Wendy’s without thinking twice. The lime situation really made me think. Am I blowing my money too easily?
