Are journalists stupid?

As I am choosing this career,
I have many questions for myself and for others.
Ofc, journalists are ain’t as smart as programmers and IT specialists.
Do you think journalists have below average intelligence? I mean in general. I believe it’s not the hardest level stuff.
Though, I want to learn to write in my native language even better… also I don’t have many other choices. That’s why I chose it.

There are always pros and cons to everything. I do know some journalists get paid well, but in America when the bubble bursts it’s like musical chairs. I remember in the early 2000’s when Huffington post was exploiting journalists having them work on a shoestring budget. I don’t know if conditions are better now. In America like 50% of people that graduate college don’t even work in their field. You should check and see what the conditions are where you live as far as the job market. I know you work hard with schz, I went to nursing school with undiagnosed schz and graduated. Just try to take care of yourself and have a healthy balance between school and mental health…I know when you go to school sometimes you have to live a life of extremes no balance. Studying all of the time. Just know that all suffering is temporary and stay focused on the end goal. You got this .

I really have to say big thanks for this part.
I am really trying.. some days are harder and some are easier. But I really want to reach my goals.
I am also not sure whether I am gonna be a journalist, or simply I need this paper for other jobs.. but mostly I want to feel more confident about myself and learn to write better. At least in my native language.
Big thanks for supporting me.

Journalists arnt stupid, its an important job historically, for the historical record and for informing the masses, and also for detective work sometimes, but it is not that lucrative for most writers unless you get a staff position at a big journal. There is a lot of freelance work that pays next to nothing, so there will be a lot of mental work writing many articles. But degree is not necessarily for just field of study, With masters journalism you will get other jobs

You’re right @broken ,
This job is important for many years. And I believe there are so many different types on journalists here. Some are truly smart, while others could be dumb.

I truly overthink at the moment while I still do not have an answer whether they will accept me to study for free or not. I really want a scholarship. I really want to study for free! Though chances are low, probably…

Also, I really don’t want to study further. These are my last two years of studying, which I hope will be successful

It’s really cool! Though I would fear teaching. I have some fears connected to public speaking.
But yeah… It’s amazing.

Yeah I wouldnt like teaching, and it is just mundane job like any other with low chance of riches and fame. But he did well, and is self reliant.

Why do you want to study for free, is tuition fees very high?

It’s high. @broken
I also want to prove to my family that I can study for free. Only the best students can do this.
Also it feels annoying to ask for my family to help me financially again…

i hope you can get the free tuition too! But dont let this be a catastrophe or disaster, we have to pay our way somehow in this life. money comes and goes, so the attitude should not be that you must not spend

Journalism space is challenging

Publishers dying

Washington post and lots of publishers just let go a bunch of journalist go. Layed off

Lots of old school journalism outlets in the same boat trying to figure it out

Vice just went bankrupt

Vox media seem to understand techical landscape to be leading and profiting and hiring journalist talent and content.

Self publishing like on substack

The problem is these days journalists are made in universities rather than credit for unveiling scandals to gain notoriety

Not sure if it’s the same where you are

A guy I went to Uni with did a journalism masters degree and he works for a major news channel

Can be done!

My daughter originally wanted to go into journalism, but once she saw the poor state of the industry she switched to marketing instead. Much more in the way of employment opportunites.

I think it’s a skill nothing to do with intelligence. I think that there are very smart journalists and very stupid. As well as programmers. You shouldn’t compare these fields . Do what makes you happy. Everyone is different and has different unique gifts to share in this world

I feel journalists do a good job in portraying what’s going on around the world in an emotionless way! They build on what their audience want, but good to gain viewpoints from different news sources to make up your own mind! But that may be an effort at times but yeah… good to make up your own mind!
