Very honest opinion about studies

I know that you probably cannot help me decide…
But,
Next year I have this possibility to study further. To reach journalism career. To study masters degree.
But I hate studying. I know most of you will agree, that diploma helps in some way…
And I know this. But I truly, truly hate studying. I don’t know what to do. All the lectures I have at the moment… I feel lots of pressure to study, but honestly, I dislike those lectures.
I don’t see Any point in studying theory. I prefer working way more.
I love practical things. I love writing. But I hate the fact I will need to write masters thesis this time. I hate it. I truly hate it
What shall I do ? I fear that without this diploma I won’t be able to get a good job.
But yeah, I hate the fact I will need to study.

Maybe study something else if you really dislike all the lectures.

A former friend from secondary school is a successful journalist now. He did a Masters in Political Science.

Here it’s more common to specialize in a field and then to become a journalist in that field.

It seems at the moment I don’t want to study anything. I don’t want write any thesis.

I would prefer working - but I fear they won’t accept me without certain diploma.

@AppleKidd maybe you can chime in on this

I had a boss in Singapore who only had a high school degree. It’s possible to make it without going to college. It’s the minority of people who choose such a path as it is off the beaten track but nevertheless possible.

I like @Jonathan2 advice; it makes a lot of sense to me to do the masters in the subject of journalism you will write stuff about.

Eg if you’re into fashion, do fashion or politics do international relations

That kind of thing

Edit: don’t study it if you hate it because you might drop out or fail or worse yet , you may feel pressure to the point of psychosis

Yea I agree with this. School contributed greatly to my first bout of psychosis

Good luck.

I think for me, if I do school, I could lose my benefits. I live in the US. It sucks. I can work part time though.

I think the biggest part of not going to school besides finances (paying for it) is lack of ability (to finish) and fear of failing.

My father sees no point in doing a degree if I don’t work or work in that field. For me, I might have to do baby steps.

If you are considering a Master’s, you must be higher functioning than most of us which is a good thing :sunny:

You guys helped me decide a bit. I rather work then spend 2 years feeling so annoyed and pressured and angry on studies

Yeah, it’s better for you to take a break and start work instead. That sounds like it’ll lead to psychosis because it’s stressful and it’s also unenjoyable :smiling_face_with_tear:

I also have this idea, that maybe in the future I could study. Just after a long long break… but at the moment I dislike the idea of studying by itself.

That’s an idea
You can work for now and always complete your studies later @anon8411913

You shouldn’t be stressed out
