My dad was watching a bit of Saturday Night Live when I walked in the living room a short while ago. I left quickly after he turned it there. I do not find this show funny at all anymore. It’s mostly just dumb stuff.
Also, sometimes we watch Americas got talent comedians or another comedys show. It is very rare I find anything funny. If I find something mildly amusing I consider that about the peak of their entertainment.
I honestly get a chuckle on the forum more often than I do from professional comedians.
Have I lost my sense of humor or are comedians just not funny any more?
I don’t know about all that - there are several hilarious stand-up comedians that keep me in stitches. The “comedy” of sitcoms and game shows is poor, and apparently a lot of people have a very low standard for comedy.
Well, I know I still have a sense of humor at least to some extent, because I make jokes here and often get a chuckle from reading the forum. I just don’t find professionals amusing anymore.
Maybe I just have certain tastes. Maybe comedians all use the same material and I’ve heard it all through the years at 49.
I think it’s hit or miss with comedians. Humor can be different for everyone. And tastes change. Sometimes I think SNL is funny and other times I don’t laugh at all.
I don’t know, there was a meme here long time ago, which explained some jokes.
Its dark humor, someone is in trouble, come on, lets make a joke out of it. Thats not funny, most jokes are hurting minorities. Its difficult when authorities decide whats funny and what is not funny. Some comedians are just using foul language. Some jokes are truthtellers. Happiness and depression are going hand in hand. Laughter is the best medicine they say.
I watch myself very closely, i am trying hard to rest my case, but my brain is in court, defending myself. The problem i don’t have any lawyers. The judge decides when i can have break. It seems there is judgement day every freaking day and Halloween is near.
You gotta find the right kind of comedian. I really like Bo Burnham, I think some of his specials are still on Netflix.
The problem is a lot of jokes aren’t landing like they used to since a lot of them are about groups that have been treated like crap lately. That’s why I think stuff like Bo Burnham is great, it’s esoteric and satiric and obviously an art piece, without being hybrid-political beliefs and humor. Another good example of an artistic comedian is Reggie Watts. He’s gone a bit mainstream lately as the right hand man of late late night show host James Corden… but I’ve been a fan of his since way before he was well known. He and Scott Ackerman used to host Comedy Bang Bang.
i don’t think that of all the things you see on tv, and online from anybody really is meant to be funny or accurate or informational or educational , etc.
maybe they are exceptions but the goal is of those things are mainly to appeal to the largest audience possible.
To make comedy for bouth the 9-5 factory worker and for the antrepreneur mom, for the plumber and for your favourite aunt, for the kid addicted to tv and for the old fart-driven senior.
Does that make sense?
It’s not meant to be funny for everyone but to appeal to everyone. “make a show, call it comic, make 3 jokes an episode and that’s called a comedy”
Also while were at it, the goal of TV is not to be your friend or source of enterteinment but to create audience. Some channels do it by terrible material some by great material, it all apeals more or less to most people. Tv is trash, trow it away
