I’ve often thought there was something wrong with me because it’s just not funny to me. Everyone is laughing and I’m just sitting there, deadpan. Even if I find something kind of humorous I don’t laugh. It’s hard to make me laugh. I’m not a laughy kind of person. I get a lot of crap for it. f em.
exception - a routine from like 30 years ago, Eddie Murphy’s Delirious, that cracked me up, i thought I would die laughing, for some reason the f word makes me laugh. idk why.
I used to go to comedy clubs with my family and I didn’t laugh. I thought the comedians were funny and I had a good time but I didn’t laugh and my family would always be asking me why I wasn’t laughing. It bothered me that they kept asking.
With the advent of the internet and YouTube it really surprises me that I don’t look at stand-up comedians more. When I used to see comedy legends on TV years ago like Richard Pryor and George Carlin, and comedians like Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock when they were cutting edge, their stand up comedy specials on TV were among my favorite things to watch. But they were only on occasionally and I thought for sure I would be watching videos of them on YouTube. But I’m not that interested.
@everhopeful Personally I’ve found Maria Bamford to be pretty funny and also relatable, what with her experiences with mental illness stuff and whatnot.
This one is pretty recent:
Edited to add: might be triggering, sorry I didn’t realize until after.
I think what puts me off a lot of stand up comedians is the studied way they try to be funny and trendy. It’s a case of “Hey folks ,look how funny I am”
I loved Robin Williams. To be honest most stand up comedy, and comedy in general, is too political for my taste. I actively avoid politics as much as possible and it’s one of the reasons I dont watch South Park anymore.
Netflix had a lot of standup specials a few years back. About a decade before that Comedy Central had great new standup all the time. Nowadays I don’t see much of it and I don’t really seek it out.
I like stand up comedy. It isn’t something I watch that often anymore. I’ve found it can be hit or miss. Back in the day some friends of mine thought Dane Cook was hilarious. I watched one of his specials and did not find it funny. Richard Pryor on the other hand, his delivery and stories make me laugh. I guess it depends who the comedian is.
i used to keep my tv on comedy central 24/7 there was some really funny stuff and i liked the stand up stuff alot, but now i dont really watch comedy, i still find some stuff funny but im more interested in other things now
I had considered trying stand up comedy myself but while what sounds good in my dumb brain I just may not be able to deliver it wisely to a crowd while having sza. I also used to watch ventriloquists like mad on YouTube but now my interests are changing.
