Applied for a US Passport Card

In addition to the traditional book passport, the US now offers a passport card that’s only good for travel to Canada, Mexico, The Caribbean, and Bermuda. It’s also a Real ID needed to fly domestically and enter Federal buildings. It only costs $30.00 vs $110.00 for a book passport. I have a book passport that I renewed in 2017, but decided to get the card, as I don’t intend to leave the US. I originally got a passport because I needed a second photo ID to rent a Post Office box after 911.

Passports are good for ten years, while a State ID card expires in four years. I just surrendered my DL for an ID this month. I’m afraid with my arthritis I may not be able to make it to the Motor Vehicles office to renew my ID in four years, so at least I’ll have a passport good to 2030.

I think it’s only good by land or by sea. I.e. I don’t think you can fly into Mexico with it. That’s how they used to work anyhow

I’m just bored, and trying to come up with thing to talk about.

After 911 I was living with my mom. She was getting my mail and forgetting to give it to me, so I wanted to rent a PO box.
