It takes work. Hard work for me at least. This year I’ve been doing all the good things like getting rid of alcohol and most sugar and doing heaps of exercise but actually gained. I’m on the right path now though and it takes big discipline in what I eat.
I enjoy food so I’ve basically cut out sugar ( still going down in coffee and tea but getting there ) and no more takeaways. It’s working and I’m still eating well but it’s more a simple diet. Rice and protein mostly and avoiding things like sauces that are high calorie like bar b que. It’s not easy but the exercise helps too.
Hi @Echo_Hello, hope your appointment with the pdoc goes well. I also put on 3 dress sizes on Invega and wasn’t eating much more than normal. I changed my ap to a 3 mg dose of Haldol. Unfortunately I didn’t lose the Invega weight. The weight was all in my belly and made me look pregnant…it was really strange. The only way I managed to take some weight off was with Ozempic. Metformin didn’t work for me. I am diabetic so that’s how I got on Ozempic but in the UK it’s called wegovy and you can get it as a weight loss medication I believe. This is just my experience and maybe diet may help you like it’s helped the others. Good luck with what you try! Hippo
i gained weight while on lurasidone so i decided to take metformin which works great but caused me severe insomnia so i disconnected it. now i am on green coffee beverage and i lost a lot of weight with no change in my diet or food intake or doing exercise and i didnt notice any side effect from it.
Thank you! I’m working on following a keto diet to eliminate carbs from my diet and starting to workout. I’m going to try to do a meal replacement with a protein shake now as well. Thanks for recommending one with the link as well!
They say that metabolism is the most important factor in determining weight gain. Maybe a little exercise would help. I lost some weight by drinking green tea. I drink a large saucepan full of it in the morning, and it makes me piss a lost. That is what has been keeping my weight down - loss of fluids. I don’t think it is too unhealthy, though. Pissing a lot never hurt anyone.
Found this trial on dosing time and time restricted eating but it’s only been done in Mice. Will be trying it tomorrow taking my ap just as it turns dark but not holding my breath I guess. I had been doing 16/8 but have fallen off the wagon. Will get back on in a few weeks I suppose.
Yea it’s been a difficult decision to switch because being on the invega injectable has meant I don’t need to worry about meds for 3 months at a time and has kept me stable but the 50lbs has made me so depressed and makes me hate to look in the mirror. It also has caused sexual dysfunction, tremor in my right hand and low energy. It has kept me out of the hospital but I haven’t been like I was before I was diagnosed. I am starting on Latuda tonight as it is said to have a lower risk of causing weight gain. I’ve seen others even say it gave them energy. I really hope it can do that for me. Anything that doesn’t increase my blood sugar and thus slow my metabolism then I can have a fighting chance to lose weight. Wish me luck! I am rather nervous about switching. I hope this works for me! I’ve been suffering for 4 years with Invega. I have set an alarm that reminds me at night to take the med so I should be able to keep up with it.
I try different things. I have tried about 15-20 medications now. I am stable enough to work and stuff. However, I am always in the process of changing my medications and trying new things.
that’s extremely interesting that you’ve tried soo many! That’s inspiring that you’re so active with your care and just haven’t given into whatever they tell you to take. Thanks for the reply and best wishes!
Well, one medication causes no sex drive, the other causes weight gain, the third causes sedation, etc…so, you have got to do what you have got to do. Chop and change them until they have a benign side effect profile.
They key was when I found Abilify. It made me stable enough to try different ones along with it.
Currently, I am on Abilify and Amisulpride. There are no side effects except for high prolactin. So, I got to take Cabergoline to reduce prolactin. I am on it, so far it has decreased prolactin quite a bit, but my sex drive could improve, so I am looking for a dose hike. If it works out, then this is the only combination I have had with zero side effects.
