I might have to change my AP

I’m gaining weight incredibly fast on Invega. I don’t know why though because I took it before and didn’t gain weight that time. But in a month, I gained 15 pounds! Ugh!

I’ve now regained 30 (13.6kg) of the 100 pounds (45kg) I lost. Plus I can’t do cardio without severe pain in my abdomen. The dr hadn’t figured out why yet.

I’m super bummed. Somehow I have to get my weight under control. I worked too hard to lose my success.

You can lose it again.

And you will.

But I’ve heard Invega is bad for weight gain.

Personally I’d switch APs just based on the things I’ve read here about Invega.

It seems to either really work,

Or ■■■■ you up.

The bummer is that I think my clearest with Invega. But I’m not willing to be 100 pounds (45kg) overweight again. I had high blood pressure, high lipids, high cholesterol, and diabetes. I was on 18 meds total. It was ridiculous. I’m simply not willing to be like that again.

Tell your doctor.

Maybe they can switch things up or put you on a plan where you can be mentally healthy and not gain weight.

I feel like that’s not so much to ask,

But we all know it is.

Yah, for me it’s worth it going off a med that causes weight gain. I hope you find something that balances both physical and mental well being.

Olanzapine made me fat pretty quickly.

When I quit I lost all that weight

Latuda has worked wonders for me. Zero weight gain too.

Invega made me gain 26 pounds in four months even when I was controlling my calories. I came off due to prolactin, but my weight is now going down too. Prolactin must be correcting, as I finally got my period again this morning.

Sounds like you need to at least call your pdoc to let them know. Good luck.

Yeah. I hate side effects.

That’s where I’m headed if I stay on Invega. No way! I worked too hard to lose the weight to just put it all back on

If I must give you an advice I’d say that most of the weight gaining is dose dependent. You see when I was on 160 mg Ziprasidone (hell meds) and I was on 550 mg Seroquel(a gift from the gods) I gained weight very rapidly. Then 6 weeks ago I quit Ziprasidone 160 mg cold turkey and I got lowered to 300 mg Seroquel and finally I got uppered with 100 mg Clopixol ( a 1. Gen weight neutral meds) and now I’m loosing weight very rapidly. So if I were you I would go to your doctor and ask for a blood test that would show you if it’s possible to lower your Invega because then you would gain less or even loose weight. A friend of mine god a blood test that showed he could get lowered with 3 mg Invega and now he’s gaining a lot less weight.

The lower dose wasn’t helping me. That’s why the Invega dose was increased. I plan to just get off Invega since it takes a high dose and causes tons of weight gain.

I’m glad you’re losing the AP weight! That’s great news!

I’m so sorry that lowering isn’t a posserbility. I hope the next meds you get on won’t make you gain weight.

Thanks @columbus

Thats what happened to me with Invega. I needed max dose to control symptoms and then when we dropped to 9 mg I had an utter meltdown I have still not fully recovered from. I understand where you’re coming from - been there!

Im sorry it didn’t work out for you though - you were so excited to get back on it! :frowning:

Thanks @anon39736208 . Yeah, I don’t remember the weight gain before. I wonder if I just didn’t realize it. I can’t wait to get off it.! Ugh

I went off Clozapine because I didn’t want to always feel hungry and want to eat, but the old-school AP they put me on required me to take Cogentin for the side effects and that’s what they think gave me the pancreatitis…and I was doing great on that med! Anyway, I had to go back on the clozapine…:frowning:

White raven if it wasn’t for the side effects of Clozapine the doctors would only prescribe Clozapine to there paitients because that clozapine simply is unbeaten for psychosis. A friend of mine had a relapse on Risperdone and he didn’t respond on any meds new or old and he had dreadfull insomnia. Then the doctor put him on Clozapine. He got 100 mgs of Clozapine and he slept 3 days and when he woke up he was totally normal. Today he is doing sports and runs 5 miles every other day. And because of the sports he is slim and as far as I know he is totally psychosis free. So now I Call clozapine a magic pill.
