Anyone taking or have been on Cogentin before?

I’ve been getting mouth twitches so my doctor wants me to start taking 1mg of Cogentin twice a day.
She said that it possibly could be the start of trade dyskinesia, it’s too soon to tell.
Has anyone been on this drug?
I’m terrified of some of the side effects!
Is this a safe drug to take overall?
Any kind of feedback or info on Cogentin would be helpful.
Thanks guys

Taking congentin was fine except for the dry mouth. My doctor prescribed it for muscle stiffness. A dry mouth contributes to tooth decay.

It helped my symptoms my head would shake violently and cogentin really helped at a high dose it makes me miserably thirsty with a smaller dose it helps but I’m only thirsty when I wake up

Do you guys still take it?
@77nick77 @AwesomeFisherman

Yes I do it helps loads without it I’d have to quit haldol and that would be a nightmare because it’s the only med that has ever worked

I get fish like movements of the mouth if I don’t take Cogentin. (I think that’s either PD or TD )

Stimulants make the mouth twitches worse so watch out for that.

I was on it while on Haldol. It helped tremendously, but I needed 3 mg per day. The dosage goes from 1-6 mg per day so I needed a middle of the road dose.

If calmed down my side effects completely at that dose

My only side effect was dry mouth. One solution is sucking on hard sugar free candy and drinking extra water

No, I stopped it because it caused dry mouth and the dry mouth contributed to needing $10,000 worth of dental work done. There were a couple other things going on that contributed to my needing all the work done. I took it for thirty years though without a problem except the dry mouth.

They are not sure if it’s eps or td
I’m pretty sure that cogentin is useless for td
That is what other drugs like Austedo and Ingrezza are for.

Cogentin can be useful for EPS symptoms like my lip twitching

She wants me in the Cogentin for two weeks

If my symptoms improve it’s most likely EPS if the Cogentin doesn’t help or my twitches get worse then it’s most likely TD

I guess that’s how it works

Do you still have muscle stiffness?
Are you in a different med?

I think Cogentin prevents TD but doesn’t treat it.

Not that I notice.

My pdoc didn’t give me anything to replace the cogentin.

I’m on 1mg cogentin. It helps with the muscle stiffness and twitches, but it does cause bad dry mouth. I chew gum all day and have a drink beside the bed at night.

I’m seeing that Cogentin has a lot of different side effects
I really don’t need to be on more medication unless my twitches get worse then I’ll take it.
Yeah I’m changing my mind now and to be honest I really just may need a med change after all
I ordered the med anyway just in case.
I’ve been consuming lots of coffee and I know that caffeine can cause twitches.
So I’ll cut down on the coffee

I started taking it recently. I was on it for fourteen years before. It works good for me. It does cause dry mouth. I’m gonna continue taking it. I take 1mg twice a day.
