My mother was schizophrenic and died a number of years ago now. I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago… so I was wondering if others also had Sz run in their family.
I was the first in my family to be diagnosed sz. My father was DID. After me, other non-immediate family were diagnosed sz.
My mother has schizophrenia also.
So far as I know, just my grandmother’s sister on my mom’s side. Don’t know who my father was so there could be SZ all over the place or none at all from his side of the family.
My uncle (dad’s brother) has schizophrenia. Other mental illnesses abound. I got sz, and then so did my son.
Ditto Hedgehog. My uncle, my father’s brother, had schizophrenia. My daughter had it (probably).
My uncle on my mom’s side had it. He died from mixing Seroquel and alcohol.
I’d interested to know what you’re talking about here as I take seroquel and also drink. I read that you can be on seroquel and still drink. In fact I did it for years.
My mother has it.
My Uncle who had it died years ago. I’m all alone in my family with this disease and it’s best it stay that way.
I think that my dad had it. he made some psy hospitals but wasn’t properly diagnosed…so he died because of his depression mixed with alcohol
.
Someone recently said that their pdoc told them not to drink on Seroquel. He was drinking in excess though. It might not be much of a problem for a casual drinker.
my dad, and 2 or 3 cousins
Do you think having a close family member also with schizophrenia changes how you respond to treatment? My mother was always off her meds and as a child I was scared I’d end up like her. Now it’s come true except I’m very careful to stay on the meds (which thankfully they found ones that work okay for me with only manageable side effects). I also feel guilty for not really understanding what she was going through… but that’s another topic.
I have an aunt who has schizophrenia but she’s not directly related, my father had Lewy’s bodies dementia. I’ve also been told that my grandpa from my father’s side used to tell some weird stories no one would get or believe, nothing diagnosed really, just some weird ■■■■. Mental Ilness comes from my father’s side for sure, there are also stories of some aunts of him who had “problems”.
My brother probably has it too, but he refuses to go to the doctor because he is afraid the government will take away his guns. He has been managing with some CBT workbooks I gave him. My other brother hears voices, but that’s his only symptom and it doesn’t bother him, so it’s not an issue.
