Anyone get Assertive Community Treatment?

ACT has been my treatment method since 2008. I haven’t been hospitalized since then.

I do not. I honestly don’t even know what it is. I don’t receive any therapy of any kind. I’m pretty much meds only unless you count the brief questions my pdoc asks every three months.

They put you in a room, the activities center, with a bunch of other patients, and you are supposed to socialize and interact with them. With me I have three group therapies a week, and 30 minutes of psychotherapy with a Licensed Certified Social Worker. Other than that I go to their AA and NA meetings, and in the activities center the rest of the day.

I’m in ACT. I’ve been doing it since 2018. I get two calls a week and go to two groups a week - CBT and Wellness.

My groups are about anything on your mind or the therapist selects a topic.

I’m in a similar program to ACT with the VA. It’s called MHICM or Mental Health Intensive Case Management. With this program you have to have a serious MI. You also either have to have a history of frequent hospitalizations, or be at risk of harm to yourself or others.

With MHICM, you have a team consisting of a pdoc, an RN, a social worker, a pharmacist and a peer support worker.

We pretty much have the same people, except we now have a medical assistant instead of a RN.

The program I’m in is for people with severe and persistent mental illness.

Do you have to qualify for ACT under any criterion like our program?

Ours is too. 15151515

I’m on s community treatment order and have been since 2011. This means I get intensive support. My hospitalisations used to be every 6 months but this has dis-increased to every 18 months. I live in a group home.

I live in the apartment my psychiatric case manager rented for me, back when they managed my money. I’ve lived alone since December 2008 when I got my own place.

Its called Assertive Outreach Team here. I told them to naff off on many an occasion. Thats not a level of support i require - infact its liable to wind me up.

I’m not sure what criteria are needed for admission. All I know they sent a case manager to see me when I was in the psychiatric hospital.

I’m on a mental health team, called an ACT team.
The team consists of the doctor, nurse, independent living skill specialist, peer support.

They manage my case.

They also check in with me (visit me) in my home, more than a supportive team.
More supervision because I’m label SMI or seriously mentally ill.

Here ACT stands for acceptance and commitment therapy. It’s known as the wave after CBT.
