Due to the antipsychotics I have gained 50kgs. My sister got me Fitbit charge 2. Can it help me lose weight? Can walking help me shed all that weight?
Yes, walking will help. Actually walking is a good starting point if your looking to start getting regular exercise.
I do cardio every day and have lost a lot of weight. It also helps with sz symptoms.
Walking can only raise your heart rate to a point. Jogging/running is where calories burned, sweat and blood pumping in the heart really occurs.
I have my target at 10000 steps for now I will work on increasing it to around 20000
10,000 steps is about 5 miles.
I would be really surprised if you could do 5 miles being 100 pounds overweight.
Start slow. Start walking around the block. If that doesn’t seem like enough do more the next day.
People get turned off of exercising because they want immediate results and over exert themselves on the beginning. It took me 18 months to lose 70 pounds.
Just remember, the weight did not go on overnight, and it will not come off overnight either.
I have actually been hitting 10000for 3 weeks straight
Suggested steps daily:
10,000 steps = 8km (ideal) /5 miles
7,500 steps = 6km (above average)
5,000 steps = 4km (average)
As a runner, I don’t even get 10,000 steps daily. Usually around 6,000-8,500 depending on the run.
If you can manage 10,000 a day That’s great!
Have you adjusted to healthier food habits?
I own a FATbit…
Every hour an alarm goes off and a robotic voice scolds me for being so fat, and tells me to stop watching Judge Judy and to get on those dirty dishes!
Yeah I eat vegetables and cereals. I eat beef only once a week
@PatrickT LOL:rofl: I want one too
If you do weightlifting you’ll build muscle at the same time. It’s a lot harder to build muscle after you’ve lost all the excess weight.
@anon35453467 thanks for the chart
I prefer just counting my calories in my head and walking.
I will try weightlifting and see how that goes
Walking can definitely help.
I used to walk 10000 steps and beyond.
20000 plus steps was not unheard of for me but honestly I think I was manic at the time.
A Fitbit is an excellent tool to help you lose weight.
I used to use one but now I just use my iPhone to track my steps.
Good luck @chemwex!
I use both my iPhone and Fitbit I don’t carry my phone sometimes because of paranoia
Well the Fitbit isn’t going to make you do anything It’s a good way to keep track of your progress and can be a good motivator that way. But you have to do all the hard work of starting to exercise regularly, changing your diet, etc by yourself.
I use my Fitbit mostly to monitor my sleep. As suspected, I generally have garbage quality sleep. It’s crazy to me the huge difference in quality sleep I see between medicated and unmedicated. Unfortunately none of the sleep meds are effective for long.
I love my fitbit. My daily goal is 11,500 steps which I do most days. That is roughly 10kms. It can certainly help you with weight loss when combined with a decent eating plan/diet. As others suggest it’s just a guide but I use that guide to maintain health combined with other technology like gps so I walk fast enough it helps.
I think it’s a good basic start to getting fit and that is a great thing!
