I have a visit at my doc’s about changing meds tomorrow. I want to try paliperydone, but I’m quite worried about possible side effects of changing meds. I’ve been doing quite well for the past 8 yrs on rispolept, but recently I’ve been looking for something which could be better. Is there anyone who has already done it? If yes then was hospitalization necesarry? Did you notice any change in health, both mental and physical? I would be grateful for any information.
do you mean Risperdal?
Yeah, I switched to Invega with no problems.
yes, I see it’s risperdal in the US. Did you notice any changes when it comes to mental and physical health?
I don’t remember
I just know my whole body is addicted to the meds
I did exactly this.
Years ago I was on Risperidone and wanted to switch over to paliperidone (Invega) out of curiosity.
It didn’t work out and I ended up switching back to Risperidone.
Good luck with the switch, I hope that it works for you.
what went wrong?
why not, @Vertigo?
I stopped having eye twitches and leaking breasts.
idk. But I did hear voices, only due to trauma, and going off of all meds.
I was on Depakote at the time and I’m pretty sure that I was experiencing side effects from an interaction between paliperidone and Depakote.
I was basically feeling very sick.
even though you responded to the original poster, thanks for your response. that makes sense.
I didn’t see your post @Daze until I stopped typing.
ok, I know you have struggled to get the right diagnosis and right meds.
You are a trooper for sticking with it, @Vertigo.
Thanks @Daze you are the Best
I took risperdal when first diagnosed with sz .Thinking of trying it again.Am I like an “old man” here ? I am 56 .Anybody my age ?
My new pdoc informed me a couple of days ago that a small dose of Abilify can counteract the prolactin increase that can come with Risperdal. I think this goes for Invega, too. (I’m referring to what @Daze wrote about leaking breasts).
I’m 51, I was on risperdal in my early thirties. I stopped going to the pdoc and my script ran out so I just stopped taking it. Needless to say I ended up in the ward and they put me on olanzapine. Got diabetes so they put me on seroquel. After many more hospitals I ended up back on haldol which has been working good for me. Risperdal may have worked better but the haldol has kept me out of the wards for 10 years. I take the shots so I don’t get a lot of side effects besides big man breasts. Never tried invega so I can’t comment on that.
docs said invega has less side effects than risperdal,
my years on meds have kind of been a blur but i would say that is true if only a little bit.
I switched from risperidone to invega sustenna, then eventually to the invega pills. I was only on risperidone for about 2 weeks mind you.
Invega sustenna gave me bad akathisia and the pills make me groggy (I’m on 12MG,). I find sustenna works better than the pills but it can take a while to work (months) depending on the person.
They are the same nearly
Paliperidone is more potent as metabolite of risperidone
What happened? Did you feel any different?
Like I said before I felt sick when I switched from risperidone to invega.
I am currently on risperidone and for me this works best.
