Am switching to Invega

Does anyone here take Invega? My psychiatrist switched me today because I was having bad side effects with my current medicine and it isn’t working against my paranoia very good, but I’m supposed to ween myself off my current medicine before I start taking it. What’s your experience with Invega?

If you are a guy beware of gynecomastia, you might get to where you want to have surgery.

What drug were you on that wasn’t working? Risperdal? If so then side effects will likely be similar.

No, Abilify. I heard it shouldn’t have side effects but it made me dizzy, gave me fevers, made me not able to be still for to long, and made me feel sad a lot.

When you say it made you feel sad was this just a general low mood? Dysphoria is definitely a dealbreaker for me. Good luck on invega, minnii always talks about it being good for her so perhaps some people find a benefit from it.

I just felt unhappy with everything.

Me and Invega are best pals  It really helps me a lot, took a while to work but once it did it’s a miracle med for me. It has a few downsides, such as raising prolactin too much causing enlarged breasts, lactation, and if you’re a woman it can put a stop on your periods. Right now, I’m on 75mg and don’t have side effects, still have my period and all. Overall it’s a great med.

But! Everyone is different, there’s a lot of people who don’t do well on Invega, like with every other med, so good luck  Hope it works for you.

I was thinking of switching to Abilify a couple of months ago and my pdoc said we couldn’t switch from Invega to Abilify all at once because they work in different ways and it could cause rebound psychosis, but since then I’ve seen people come and go from this site that switched from one to the other without apparent issues, given that they didn’t come back so I don’t know if they relapsed or not, I’ve been waiting, it’s been a couple of months now.

I’m on 12mg invega. That’s the highest dose orally. I don’t have raised prolactin levels from it.

I put on 8kg in a year on it which is nothing compared to some other medicines like zyprexa.

It took about nine months to really start working but it works really well. "Hallucinations " and " delusions " are really manageable on invega.

Good luck with it. I love invega.

Yeah I was on zyprexa and gained 40 pounds in a year.

I’ve been on invega for like 5 years, I take the injection 150mg once a month and it is a magic med it took around a year to get used to it but bye bye delusions and hellucinations I haven’t relapsed since

Also, I’ve been on invega so long that if I forget to take my dose, like I did yesterday, it’s built up enough in my system that I don’t have symptoms on those days.

I almost forgot again today actually!

How long have you been taking it? On every medicine I’ve been on I would start having symptoms the day after I forgot to take it, but the longest I’ve ever been on an antipsychotic was only a year.

I’ve been on it for one year and three months now.

I don’t know then. Maybe this medicine will be different for me and I can go a couple days with no symptoms.

What have you got to lose?

Found this: “Paliperidone is the primary active metabolite of the older antipsychotic risperidone.” So while I have nothing to say about paliperidone I had bad experiences with risperidone. How is it in comparison to risperidone?

I’ve never been on risperidone, but my sister has and she had really bad experiences. We don’t know if it was risperidone or another medicine because she was on like four different ones at the same time but it made her have really weird behaviour. She carried a bag of sugar around like a baby, cracks raw eggs in her drawers, and other things I don’t remember but I think my mom does.

I’ve been on Invega for just over a month. It works really well and I haven’t noticed any side effects except that my Prolactin level is increased. That can cause issues if it gets too high, like gynecomastia or even galactorrhea. But otherwise it works well and doesn’t cause a lot of problems.
