My therapist wants me to ask my pdoc if she’ll prescribe a DORA (dual orexin receptor antagonist) to help my poor sleep. They’re supposed to block the hormone orexin which is involved in keeping you awake. They’re not benzos or z-drugs and aren’t supposed to promote dependence or tolerance, and there’s no rebound insomnia if you go off them, BUT they’re still considered a controlled substance by the FDA. I’ve tried melatonin and trazadone, but the only time the trazadone worked was when i paired it with 1mg Ativan. Has anyone tried these? One of them is called Dayvigo, they’re fairly new meds. I really need to sleep better but my clinic won’t prescribe benzos or z-drugs, and i don’t want to get dependent on Ativan again (unlikely, i only have 4 pills left from the hospital).
