I hear it made voices go away? Anybody on it and what is your experience with it?
sorry for bad english
I was on it for about 6 months years ago and it did absolutely nothing, it also gave me this horrible problem that made my eyes blink constantly. A friend that was on it also developed the blinking problem, it went away after I stopped taking it.
My doctor mentioned Geodon once, but it seems that this is not a good choice for me.
Geodon can cause Heart Problems - this is why I am not even considering it - there is a family history of Heart irregularities in my family.
Most important fact about this drug
In some people with heart problems or a slow heartbeat, Geodon can cause serious and potentially fatal heartbeat irregularities. The chance of a problem is greater if you are taking a water pill (diuretic) or a medication that prolongs a part of the heartbeat known as the QT interval. Many of the drugs prescribed for heartbeat irregularities prolong the QT interval and should never be combined with Geodon. Other drugs to avoid when taking Geodon include Anzemet, Avelox, Halfan, Inapsine, Lariam, Mellaril, Nebupent, Orap, Orlaam, Pentam, Probucol, Prograf, Serentil, Tequin, Thorazine, Trisenox, and Zagam. If you’re uncertain about the risks of any drug you’re taking, be sure to check with your doctor before combining it with Geodon.
Geodon has kept me stable for the most part but the only other antipsychotic that I have tried was zyprexa and that didn’t do anything for me. Everybody responds to medications differently. I do get an ekg every six months to check my heart function.
I just took my morning dose. It is part of my life and has been since 2013. I would give it a shot. Without it, I am a poop mess.
My pdoc mentioned it when he was thinking of what medicines that he should try me on. He said it causes weight gain that’s why he didn’t want me on it. I say give it a shot, if it doesn’t work then you can at least say you tried.
Sometimes Geodon makes you lose weight, it is one of the most weight neutral atypicals around
That’s weird he was worried about it making me gain weight. Or maybe it was another med he said would make me gain. He mentioned like 7 different meds including seraquel and risperidone.
Out of the atypicals, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Risperdal, Invega, all have the potential for causing the most weight gain - cannot forget about Clozapine
When I was up for a meds change in 2013 my psychiatrist recommended to the medical aid that I should use either Geodon or Abilify. The med aid approved Abilify for me but I got a co-payment on it. If I would take Geodon I would have no co payment. That is why I’m considering to talk to my pdoc about the possibility of Geodon on my next visit to her.
I took it for a while. I can’t remember dosage but I got super sleepy just after taking it. I once was late taking it and I got horrible nausea, almost like I was coming down with the flu. It did work for my symptoms though.
I was on Geodon for about six months. It REALLY helped at first - it worked incredibly quickly for me and made my delusions and hallucinations almost completely vanish. It slowly stopped working over time so my doctor added Latuda and then I ended up in the hospital and got switched to Invega.
That said, I gained a lot of weight while on Geodon (30 pounds).
