Anybody on saphris?

If for any reason i need to change meds , im thinking of going to Saphris. Whats your experience of it , how long were you on it? Etc

Thanks

I was on it for about 6 months. I didn’t like it…I prefer a pill over a lozenge. It also made my restless leg symptoms worse. I would get it real bad. It feels like energy shooting down my legs and I have to jerk it.

I took it for a month or two and it didn’t help me very much, plus the taste was horrible and I nearly threw up every time I took it. It’s sub-lingual which means it goes right through the bottom your tongue into your bloodstream so you go from being completely normal to a zombie in 60 seconds flat, it’s scary as hell!

I’m currently on Saphris, I’ve been on it for almost a year. I like it a lot. It took a while to get used to, yes it tastes funny (make sure to get the black cherry flavored one, its better) but you get used to it. As for the restless legs, for me in the beginning it was really annoying at first but over time, a couple of months, it settled down and i don’t experience it anymore. So if you can stick out those things it’s really a great drug.

I took it for a while. it started off really well, then caused some weird side-effects I would not like to re-experience. I too like the pill over the lozenge. Overall I’d give it a 5.3/10

I’ve only taken Saphris 2 nights, but it scared the heck out of me, so no more! Did anyone have a feeling of super drugged, yet couldn’t remain still while in bed? And I had trouble trying to get up to move around. I felt terribly drugged, yet could not sleep. I finally took a Gabapentin and atarax to sleep. The next two days I had no desire to do anything, unlike when I was on Latuda. I took Latuda for 2 months and felt on top of the world but got so high on it I couldn’t come down off the high, so I stopped it. Wasn’t taking anything for 4 months, but I became so depressed and anxious again. Had to wait until my next appt. because of other medical treatments. Just got to see my psychiatrist last week. My psych will not give me anything to take with the Latuda to counteract the extreme high, so that’s why he placed me on Saphris. I’ve gone from feeling high to this crappy feeling. Of course, my mood is still all over the place! Anyone have the same problem with Saphris? Any suggestions?

I took Saphris samples for a month. It did nothing to me except give me wacky dreams.

I remember the first 2 weeks of Saphris being really strange and I didn’t like it at all. Like you described. If you are willing to wait it out, you’re body will get used to it and it gets better. My pdoc says that a lot of people stop taking it for the reasons you described and never get the full benefit of it. But after 2 months when the dose was increased to 30mg I stopped hearing voices and seeing things completely, stopped dissociating. So those benefits outweighed the weirdness of the Saphris in my mind. It doesn’t impair me cognitively like some of the other AP’s did, I have emotions while taking it -not flat and apathetic all the time. For me the only downfall is that I sleep a lot, like 10-12+hours (but it could be the high dose I’m on), but I do wake up clear headed, not foggy and zombie-like like when I was on clozaril. As to the mood, when I started Saphris I was really depressed so I didn’t have any mood changes (also taking 200mg Zoloft for the depression). But in the year I’ve been taking it the depression has lifted and my mood has been pretty stable, no mania. Not sure if I am bipolar but definately had major depression, so that makes me sza.

I am thinking of getting off of Risperdal, the weight gain is awful, plus it is messing with my blood glucose levels and now hormones a bit. I suffer from a lot of anxiety and when Latuda was brought up, my pdoc said that Latuda can worsen my anxiety and it is a very stimulating drug.
She wanted to give me samples of Saphris, she said that Saphris was not a big anxiety inducing medication as Latuda or Abilify are - it isnt as stimulating.
I declined the samples when I was there, instead we are continuing to lower the Risperdal till I hit the 1 mg mark.
If for some reason my health concerns don’t clear up in a couple of months or so on a lower dose of Risperdal, I just might make the switch to Saphris.

I am not crazy about the fact that it is sublingual, but I did some research on Saphris, and it has a pretty good metabolic - weight profile. I think there is a black box warning that it may cause some serious allergic reactions - but I think that it is pretty rare

it didn’t work for me. I couldn’t bear the taste of it.
