Anybody have trouble with generic versions of their meds?

I use generic versions of my meds (Abilify ) and have for years.

Lately I’ve been taking a new brand of generic and I’ve been getting tactile hallucinations. I haven’t had those since I was off meds a decade ago.

I don’t know if this Is coincidence or if the new generic is causing it.

I see my psychiatrist in 2 weeks. I’ll ask for a prescription for actual genuine brand name Abilify (not generic) and see if that clears things up.

Can’t say for sure, but it is definitely worth the switch to see how things go.

Yes. It nearly killed me. Almost 9 years of insomnia because of generic olanzapine. The reason I didn’t understand the cause is before 2014 they would sometimes give me generic, sometimes original, and would keep saying they were exactly the same at the pharmacy. After I started original med sleep has been much better compared to how it was, although still not good.

These tactile hallucinations are beginning to get me down.

I really hope that it’s a generic meds problem, otherwise Abilify has pooped out on me and is no longer working after 10 years.

I’ll actually be seeing my psychiatrist in 10 days and not 2 weeks.

There are differences between different generics @everhopeful

Hopefully it’s just this new generic.

Good luck at your upcoming doctors appointment

This is something you might want to report to the FDA. Others might be having a similar reaction so it’s important for those affected to have it recorded in the national registry or the FDA in the USA. It might be a problem with the medication or just the specific lot you received.

I hate this one brand of Invega they keep giving me. The pills are square and get caught in my throat

idk i cant really tell but i seem to get a different looking pill for abilify and paliperidone almost every month. but i cant tell the difference if the medicine is just wearing off on me or if its the change. i thought generics were all supposed to be the same tho except maybe the way they look.

Coincidentally it’s time to order my next batch of Abilify from the pharmacy.

So I’ll get either my old brand generic or actual name brand Abilify into my hands by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I really hope that sorts things out, as I’m at my wits end.

all my medications is generic i dont take brand drugs and i dont have any complaints from them.i also suffer from tactile hallucination and sexual hallucination. it bothers me alot. and i have delusional reasoning for these unusual feelings.its so stressful. its a residual symptom from my first episode of schizophrenia.

I hope things work out for you too, tactile hallucinations suck

@everhopeful maybe it has to do with how fast they are acting in the body throwing off the rythm you’re used to, just a wild guess, But not sure how plausible that it. I know that when I used to get shots, if I waited one day longer than my month schedule, I would get slight symptoms. So I think throwing off the rythm the body is used even slightly can have some effect.

@Mr_Hope I think I am on the same brand of olanzapine as you when you got sleep problems. I hope I don’t develop it, if I start to get it I’m gonna have to do what you did, start on original zyprexa brand.

Well, I’ll be getting my usual generic brand on Tuesday. I’ll see if that fixes things.

If not, I’m sunk.

I thought they were supposed to be identical

But maybe never know as some of the ones I have taken I never tried the branded version

The UK rarely gives out branded stuff

I often have issues with generic forms of several medications which give me additional side effects. The most recent was thyroid medication, which I just last year needed to start on. The generic made me feel terrible, I pay a little extra for brand name Synthroid now through a program with the makers of the drug, it’s still really cheap, but I don’t get any side effects from the brand name.

Even though the active ingredients are the same, different fillers are often used in generics.

I’ve noticed differences in generics. I never really had control over what I got.

Ok, I’ve got my OLD brand of Abilify in my hands.

It could take up to 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference as it takes 2 weeks for Abilify to reach a steady state in your body.

Fingers crossed it makes a difference.

Maybe you could try increasing the dosage of the abilify, and seeing if that would help. Wish the best for you @everhopeful, tactile hallucinations are the worst.

Good luck, dear!!!
I take the generic of olanzapine, yeap… I am totally not out of my sick mind, but tthis med is still working, cause at least, i have still the strengths to get up in the morning and continue to fight. Without the ap, am not able even of that…
For the rest though, it still can be possible, that the originals will be better, maybe with less side effects or more help yeap… But i got so tired from the pdocs, that i cant do the steps to get the original. Its complicated here, cause you know that zyprexa is expensive…
I still think, that yeap, some generics can be not so effective etc, but i cant be sure…
I feel your worries, am weak too now as you, prayers for us then mainly heh
