My current med wipes me out.

what med is it?

If it gets too bad maybe you could talk to your pdoc about a med change.

I cant deal with sedation. I would rather deal with the hallucinations then be sedated. Was super sedated last year on high doses of seroquel and almost killed myself at work, damaged my eyes and lost my eyelashes and burnt up face and arms in an explosion, really really scary stuff. Now i most likely have ptsd from it and it lead to my most serious psychotic break. Im definitely no Johnny Ramone.

I use to take it very slow and slept a lot when I was on Clopixol. I was so sedated that I could hardly walk. I had terrible negative symptoms at the time so that probably contributed to my avolition.
I’m on Abilify now and I’m doing a lot better. Maybe you should speak to your pdoc about the sedation you experience on your current med.

all i can say is try to do as much as you can when you have the time and hopefully you can stretch it, if you cant stretch it then maybe you need to talk to your p/doc but i guess then you might have motivation issues as well, yeah i would talk to your doc and let them know how it is affecting you.

It is quetiapine immediate release. I take it morning and night. Woke up this morning at 9am - took my med and fell asleep to 3pm :scream:

Could it have to do with pulling an all nighter the other night? That could really mess with your sleep schedule especially if you’re taking sedative medication

That’s what my mum was saying - you may well be right.

Anyway spoke to my nurse and she’s will bring it up at the MDTM on Thursday. Would like to be put on the extended release formulation - you take this once at night - far less side effects.

Whoa dude take that stuff at night. Seroquel is extremely sedating. All bs aside, everyone who has taken it goes to sleep or becomes half awake unless they are acutely ill.

I was even prescribed it for insomnia once.

I take seroquel xr; no sedation. Get on xr and sedation is manageable.

When I was on risperdal I was sleeping 16 hrs a night. A lady at my schizophrenia therapy group says she started sleeping 18 hrs on risperidone. Have you tried any other meds? How are you able to be productive during the day?

yeah i hv tried other meds like aripiprazole, amisulpride and blonitas but they are not as effective as risperdal…i take modafil at morning and it keeps me alert during daytime …currently which meds are u taking?

Depixol, seroquel, gabapentin, Prozac and buspar

Im on 600-400 seroquel and 2mg rexulti. And 10mg brintellix.

I think risperdal and zyprexa r the meds they have u on right out of the hospital. Then u move on to other meds.

If risperdal is working for u by all means stick with it. From what ive read it exacerbates neg symptoms so keep that in mind.

What country do u live in?

@eduvigis Some meds are more sedating than others.
Everyone responds differently to these meds.
Some people try to deal with the sedating side effects, because the med is helping them.

You are on Seroquel and it happens to be one of the most sedating APs out there.
Maybe you are on it because it is effective for you and you are dealing with it.

I was on Risperdal for years, and although it is a bit sedating, it helped me with my moods, especially in the early years of taking it.

As far as Negative symptoms being caused by Risperdal - this was not the case for me so much.

Negative symptoms are primarily caused by the illness, especially if you also suffer from Depressive episodes like I do.

I am not on an AP and I still suffer from Anhedonia - lack of pleasure and I still suffer from lack of motivation, although this has improved some.

I am currently on Depakote and it is considered to be a very sedating drug, I take it with Klonopin, another sedating drug.

I put up with the sedation because these meds work for me. Most people get used to the sedation as time passes.

Personally I cannot tolerate stimulating meds.
Again, everyone is different.

I know it’s controversial but caffeine helped me . But you may need sleeping pills if you over do it. But time is the big healer at least for me.

As your body adjust to the meds the side effects lesson .might talk to your doctor about decrease of medication.
