Any experience with seroquels?

Uninsured right now. My invega trinza that I got is good until February but after that I’ll have to do out of pocket medication. Quetiapine is on the $4 list at Walmart so I’ll probably go on that. Few questions

Will it make you gain weight/is it weight neutral?
Does it have less of a hormonal effect than invega?
How is the feeling on it in general?
Do you think I’d be motivated to work out on it?

I take it
I don’t notice any difference between it and any other drug in terms of hormonal effect.
It’s a it sedative at first, but that will pass as you get used to it. It’s actually kinda cool to have a sedative at night to help you sleep.
Just like any other med, as you take it it will become easier to tolerate and less sedative overall.
If you want to hold a job, mild sedative effects from any given med will have minimal effect anyways. Wake up in the morning and go to work just like anyone else

It’s good, but does cause weight gain. I’ve gained 10lbs in 3 weeks on 100mg.

Everyone is different though. For example, I can’t tolerate invega.

As for working out, I do still feel motivated to take walks.

The weight gain has been worth the sleep for me. My voices never go away. I weigh 184.5lbs and am 5’4". Hopefully I will get back down to 140lbs.

I was on it for sleep so a very low dose. Knocked me the heck out.

Seroquel is known to cause weight gain. When I was on it I zombie ate in my half asleep state. I haven’t heard anything about it having a hormonal effect and didn’t have that issue with it. Mainly just made me so sleepy and hard to wake up and reduced my sex drive by a lot. It did help with my overactive bladder as well interestingly. I doubt it will motivate you to work out you’ll probably be more motivated to sleep as it is known to sedate people.

Some meant to be non sedating meds are ones like abilify, latuda, vraylar, rexulti, fanapt, etc. Though all of these except maybe abilify are likely to be quite expensive without insurance.

It is good
If you r on diet it can’t stop you from losing weight

I found it good for sleep it totally knocked me out for about 12 hours. I had no issues with weight from it. It kept my delusions and depression in check for 2.5 years.

I was on 900mg of it for about 6bmonths back in 2007. The doc I was seeing at the time basically did it to zombie me out, she figured if I couldn’t function that was an.improvement. went to my GP and she instantly took me off and filed a complaint with the board against that pdoc. I wasn’t the only one she did it to. Since it didn’t help with the voices or hallucinations I was trapped in my body with everything still going on, think sleep paralysis but you’re awake.

I didn’t sleep on that dose, I still was up for days at a time, just a zombie.

If you can get a low dose, it helps, and you can function, I’m happy for you. But try to keep it at the lowest dose you can that’ll work, and depending on your work, you may be on restrictions for a bit from your doctor like machinery, or other things like that. I didn’t work at the time I was on it, but once I got off it I worked at USPS for 9 months, bad decision since I lost all medicaid and was considered a part time fill in at 58 hours a week the whole 9 months. It was a 2 person post office, the postmaster hired me so she could go out on medical leave. So I filed for SSDI on Dec 31, 2008. Haven’t worked since.

Good luck and i hope your dose works for you.

It did work good for sleep but i cant take that drug cause my stomach dont tolerate it, so be aware.

It works well for some,

But wasn’t the drug for me.

I was like a zombie, eating and sleeping all the time.

Gained 60lbs.

Took a long time to lose that weight.

But I know several people on the forum it has really helped.

Plus, I was on a pretty high dose, so I feel like I had more side effects.

It’s very sedating, and it may raise your bloodsugar
