Any advice for tapering off Risperdal and switching meds?

So the risperdal 1.5mg Im on is causing really bad side effects like disorganized thoughts, OCD like intrusive thoughts, incoherent ideas and generally just really bad cognitive side effects, and has made me extremely anxious, so I made the decision to find a new drug

Ive only been on it for one month, is tapering necessary? Are there any things you should be aware of before switching? I was thinking of trying something opposite to Risperdal(Abilify or something like it) but idk how these drugs work

Is there generally a way to picking and choosing your next AP or do you seriously just take a gamble?

I guess my way of thinking is Risperdone = bad for me, so Paliperdone might also be bad for me, therefore try something thats not a dopamine Antagonist and try Abilify which is a partial agonist. Is this bad logic?

Don’t do anything till you talk to your doctor. :hear_no_evil::hear_no_evil::hear_no_evil:

I transitioned to olanzapine from resperidal over the course of about 2 months. I was on the max dose which is 6mg. I went down by 1mg every couple weeks. Then once I got to a lower dose of resperidal I started taking olanzapine before I could get off the resperidal completely.

Yes. My doctor is aware of my concerns but is unfortunately being dismissive as hell. The last time I wrote a long message stating all my concerns he chose to only address the body aches and chest pain which was a single sentence and disregarded the entire email about my thinking problems.

I am sorry for that. :sauropod::sauropod::sauropod:

Being on a antipsychotic at a low dose for one month should make the tapering process easier, but please consult with your doctor.
Do not attempt to come off this med on your own.

Switching meds is a bit of a hassle so tell your doctor. Meds, there are quite a few to choose from, hope you find one.
