I used to take Risperdal since 2011, but I switched to Zyprexa in October 2019. I’ve had weight gain and I think the Zyprexa is making my back and left leg hurt worse. I have arthritis. Do you think I should switch back to Risperdal or try Abilify? The only problems I had with Risperdal was peeing a lot and a stuffy nose. I’m going to see my pdoc Monday.
I got akathisia from risperdal. i didnt last more than a few months on it. You never know what your response to meds is going to be until you try them.
Finding the right combo of stuff takes a while. Every time I get a new doc they want to switch stuff around.

I wasn’t stable on Abilify but I was on Risperdal.
I am switching now from Latuda to Risperdal and my negative symptoms slightly improved since I took Risperdal.

Im struggling to identify with the correlation between risperidone and polyurea or sinusitis. I think frequent urination can be an underlying issue with the prostate or perhaps blood sugar levels; something definatly worth exploring with your pcp. I would recommend a cbc rule out and a psa examination considering your age group.As far as which ap is best for you that is a discussion to save with your psychiatrist. Their two different specialties psychiatry and family medicine and each requre years of specialty in that particular feild of education.

I would go with abilify. I was on paliperidone which is very similar to risperdal and my prolactin went sky high. I’m on abilify now.

LS! Hi Mike1! I started with Zyprexa in 1998 but had an incredible weight gain and switched to Risperdal. After seven years my psychiatrist thought it better because of my weight problems to switch me to Abilify. But as a side effect I lost my eyesight when stressed on Abilify and it did lasting damage to my vision. My GP eight years ago stopped my medication but this proved to be a bad idea. So seven years ago I went on Risperdal again. Recently two times a cardiologist warned me that Risperdal is bad for my heart. I had my heart checked because of arrythmias. Abilify gave me nervous energy and I am doing great now on Risperdal. I am happy with Risperdal and was not happy with Zyprexa or Abilify.

Risperdal is better than Abilify in my opinion. I got even more psychotic on Abilify.

I switched from risperidone to abilify, had a lot less side effects while on abilify

Hey @anon54988740 so its been 25 days, I take it you followed up with your doctors, whatd they have to say, whats your current health and what are you on now?
I started taking Abilify 5mg three weeks ago, but I started hallucinating some. My PCP called in 10mg Abilify to take until I see my new pdoc July 13th. So far I’m doing pretty good on the 10mg. My appetite is gone, and I’m not hungry much. It’s making it easier to lose weight. I’ve been having trouble sleeping at night, but slept in the morning. No other side effects so far.

The back and leg pain are still here. The frequent urination is gone.
