Zyprexa is giving me major ocd symptoms and i was wondering if anyone has relapsed from switching meds. I go to see my psychiatrist in a week and i want to talk about switching to a new antipsychotic. I have been on zyprexa for six months
This has been a concern for me too. I’ve been wanting to switch from Risperdal but have been afraid of that possibility.
I was changed from Olexar/ Zyprexa to Abilify. I relapsed a couple of months later and my dosage was increased. Fortunately the symptoms did not last too long.
Yes but it was minor. When you change meds you stay on your old one at a lowered dose while the new one is increasing, so you have double AP’s in your system for a while.
You can relapse but I don’t think it is a major relapse because you just get a few symptoms of relapse, maybe an increase in hallucinations etc for a period of time while the new AP is building up in your system.
Mind you, I still have symptoms and I’m stable on my medications. It’s just like breakthrough schizophrenic symptoms I guess.
Have found my ideal meds now. Getting to that point is tough. All the best for finding the right med. think it is a matter of luck and patience.
I don’t exactly remember since it’s been a while since I’ve had to change medicines, but I believe that I have.
Yeah I had the same questions since I’ll most likely be switching Abilify for another AP. It’s a trial and error process. Best of luck to you!
Thank you i hope it gets better
i had a relapse from changing APs in 2010
I am switching APs in a couple of days and I am worried that it won’t work and I’ll go Nuts!
Yeah you are right, it’s trial and error.
Did you have to be hospitalized?
What med are you on now and which one are you changing to?
I am on Risperdal now (lots of side effects)
And switching to Vraylar.
Yes 4 weeks fully psychotic in hospital
I switched from Abilify to Latuda for a short spell earlier this year. Each day I felt like I had 20 coffees and my grandiosity returned. I was a human nerve ending…restless and unsatisfied.
Went crawling back to Abilify on @everhopeful’s advice and I’ve been fine ever since. Never better in fact.
