Anxiety when changing ap meds

I never get anxiety in my life except when changing my antispychotic. I fear that it won’t work or that I will have serious side effects etc I hesitate too much to try new meds. I got prescribed Clozapine 2 days ago and I just did the heart ECG test for it.

im starting to think about clozapine myself, but i guess my trinza is good enough for now. i don’t want to do all the blood tests with clozapine. i know it is supposed to be the strongest med, i always wonder if my sometimes voices would go away completely if i tried it though.

It will be fine Aziz. If Clozapine causes you problems you can always quit taking it and switch to another ap.

As for it not working. I doubt that. Clozapine is the most effective Ap there is, I believe.

I’ve always gotten nervous about taking new meds because I don’t know if they’ll work or how I will react to them, I think it’s normal to feel that way.

But it has to be tapered off over months I read, its really hard to quit. The taper has to be very slow, 50mg/week max I read. I am currently on 6mg Risperdal which is equivalent to 400mg Clozapine.

I read Clozapine withdrawals are the worse as its an anticholinergic, antiserotonergic, antiadrenergic and antidopamine. I read that catatonia can happen too.

It also act on GABA receptors.

But don’t you feel hopeful that it might clear up some of your negative symptoms? I think I would both be nervous AND a little excited.

It took me over 4 years to taper myself off olanzapine and I had a bad time. I still have insomnia since quitting 3 months ago. When I quit venlafaxine I had brain zaps and body zaps for 3 months. I’ve had benzo withdrawals from clonazepam. And I’ve read thousands of withdrawal stories online, Seems to be par for the course for many psych meds for many people. It sucks, just gotta suffer through it I guess.
