I have tried 5 APs and soon will be trying a 6th, Clozapine for negative symptoms. If Clozapine doesn’t work idk whats left, maybe Geodon but I am tired of changing meds and my previous pdoc refused changing my meds, he said if I keep changing meds previously working meds may stop working or I will need a higher dose.
My first pdoc said something similar. Every time you quit your meds they become less effective, quit too many times and they may not work at all.
What you are experiencing sounds frustrating but I wouldn’t give up just yet. In one thread you mentioned you might consider MAID for the mentally ill, but that won’t be available for at least 1.5 years so I would keep trying new meds before you make a major decision like that.
I would definitely at least try Clozapine. It sounds promising. After that, I dunno. Hopefully it will work well for you and you won’t have to switch again. I would worry switching to new meds only after seeing if clozapine works for you. I think you are thinking too far ahead right now. Wait and see.
To be honest, @Aziz, you don’t give meds much of a chance to work. You try them for less than a month and decide right away you don’t like them. You have to give them at least a month or two. Side effects can go away.
You have a habit of deciding anything and everything won’t work right away. Give things a chance.
Clozapine has really helped my positive symptoms, but nothing for my negative symptoms.
I have been on risperdal for over a year. The only med I tried for negative symptoms is Wellbutrin took it for 6 weeks, it made my positive symptoms worse. I was on Latuda for a year and 8yrs on Abilify.
I thought you tried something else recently. If not, I apologize. Maybe it is someone else I am thinking of. Probably and I think I know who I mixed you up with. Ooops. Sorry.
no way. you should absolutely try new ones.
I’ve always been aggressive with meds and I found what works eventually. It wasn’t an easy process and it took me years to find what works…that is the key. With psych meds you have to try at least 6 months unless your falling apart. I so wanted abilify to work I was on it for 2 years and it just didn’t cut it over plain old zyprexa.
That is the other thing. It’s what works for you so don’t ask us. I came here and found out all the horror stories about zyprexa and when it was suggested I almost didn’t do it. So glad I did…
We are all different and your a smart guy. I always go for side effects ( least ) versus function and it’s not a simple cookie cutter process. Sometimes you just need to try it and give it some time.
