I am coming off clozapine going frI’m 600mg to 400mg and possibly change of meds to Loxapine.
I am scared cause clozapine seemed to be helping aleave a lot of ten positive symptoms (hearing less voices/not as frustrated at the internal voice). But unfortunately my
Blood work is coming back bad, and my pdoc says she is forced change meds.
i had the same problem…my bloods went into the red…I was doing well enough but was glad of the change of meds as I no longer had the associated problems with that drug…
it can be tough coming off but you have to see it as fate…im on other meds now that are working…and I don’t have the hassle of clozapine…that drug used to leave me feeling weak…it is a very toxic drug…
The changes that you can expect to result from cross-tapering depends on how much you were taking and how long you were taking it. Usually, a temporary episode of mild agitation and possibly insomnia will occur but dissipate within two to four weeks. You may experience nothing. However, it is best not to take if not absolutely necessary. I don’t believe that your doctor would have stopped it if (s)he thought that it would seriously harm you.
I’m on clozapine but I have treatment resistant sza. It takes a long time to feel all the affects. It’s not for everyone. Getting bloodwork done all the time is a pain
Yes I have to get my blood work twice a week. I was at 600mg clozapine taking 200mg at morning/noon/night. I am now tapered to 400 mg at Morning/Night. Waiting to see what blood work says. But it is not looking good for me to stay on this med despite the fact it has helped a lot with internal voices.
Stopping clozapine is a major decision in any treatment plan. It is taken very seriously by the treating physician and all risks and benefits are weighed carefully. Withdrawing from clozapine may come with many potential consequences. I hope that you have someone with sufficient expertise to help with the process.
