I use my Valium this way…yes there’s side effects I get a lil slower a lil less energy…but people abuse them easy too…so just mind yourself…
I take klonopin
The biggest sideaffects are addiction, built up tolerance, can’t mix with alcohol. But I need it, don’t drink and my tolerance doesn’t change
My doctor prescribed Atarax (hydroxyzine HCl) for anxiety. It’s actually an allergy med/antihistamine. I take it occasionally when I have an anxiety attack and it seems to work OK for me. It’s not addictive so could be a safer option than benzos.
I take gabapentin for anxiety. It works well without making me high, so I can still function. I try to take it sparingly though, because it’s easy to build up a tolerance. It’s not addictive. It tends to give me hyper sexuality.
I take gapapinton its kinda addictive…I feel slightly mouthy on it…more mouthy anyway
My friend and dad sleep all day if they put any benzo in their body. It gives me energy if anything. Everyone’s different. I’ve been on 1.0 for 2 1/2 years still does the trick.
And it’s the one narcotic I can’t abuse…doesn’t get me high. I’m no benzo activist just saying it could possibly do you well if you’re lucky.
Hi @SauceyMike - You can ask your pdoc about an anticonvulsant that has good antianxiety properties - it’s called Gabapentin/Neurontin.
Good luck!
I would say buspar or bupropion for a first line of defense against anxiety
Benzos bad anticonvulsant risky
bupropion!? That can cause anxiety.
The problem with Buspar is that it is not very effective for a lot of people.
It either works really well for some or it doesn’t do much for many.
My first psychiatrist would not prescribe it to me because he said that I might as well be taking a placebo for my severe anxiety issues.
Lexapro is great for my chronic (read: not episodic) anxiety, it tackled that within days. Atenolol has also been a lifesaver.
Bupropion is better for worried well types, not schizophrenia patients as well- I forgot it hits dopamine. I recant! No bupropion unless you want to work against your meds
Buspar is for the worried well also- it just a better choice for general anxiety than benzos…but schizophrenia anxiety can range from general to severe
Only happens that time…I say propranolol.
I take it for that. It works! I didn’t read that very carefully…it being contextual and physically feeding itself is important
Propranolol is the med
Thanks for the replies guys I’ll check these out.
I recently started taking propanolol prn for test anxiety, its amazing! Except I get terrible abd cramps and my stomach feels like its going to explode from pressure/gas about 6 hours later. Anything I can do for this? Gas-x helps some.
uh…that is not seemingly a dangerous side effect…I think over the counter stuff should come in handy. Maybe make a habit of taking them together if the symptom always happens six hours later…like…take the propranolol and then three hours later take the OTC gas stuff. That is what I would do.
Same for me. Lexapro at a low dose got rid of my daily anxiety lickity split.
Bupropion causes anxiety for me.
