Has anyone heard of any antipsychotics that help with motivation?
I think thats a contradiction in terms
@MeghillaGorilla1
How do you mean? I am wondering if the antipsychotic prescribed will help with motivation which can be the most concerning for me. I dont know what kind yet. Will it ever get better? Any meds work for this? Thanks
Every antipsychotic I’ve ever tried sedated me, but I have heard that Aripiprazole (I think that’s Abilify in US) is less sedating than most APs and some people find it slightly stimulating. I tried it and it didn’t work for me, but I have known people who said it had a stimulant effect at low doses.
Vraylar actually made me want to do things.
Abilify wasn’t bad for motivation either.
Risperidone is awful, it’s zonking me out!
I haven’t found one that helps but some people say ability can
That’s super helpful information. I can keep that in mind for my psych appt
You’re welcome
Latuda is pretty good.
Ok that’s great! I’ll keep it in mind. One consult specialist said he will be recommending AP but I can remember the name of it. The info will help when I meet my psych I can explain concerns. Ty everyone
Abilify can be good for motivation in low to medium dosage if you can tolerate it. I couldn’t tolerate it, but I’ve been working hard on my motivation and it seems to be helping.
@Insightseeker
Ask your doctor about adding Wellbutrin (bupropion) to an antipsychotic. Wellbutrin is for depression, so it’s not a mood stabilizer. Wellbutrin will increase your motivation.
Seroquel boosted my motivation, to the point where it was equal or greater than my preschizo days.
This effect emerged after a year or so of adjusting to the medication.
Risperidone knocked down my motivation. I don’t even want to do things I used to consider fun anymore.
Ability stimulates me to an extent.
It worked that way for me. I actually got an increase in physical strength from Abilify.
I am stimulated , motivated from abilify
Does not exist.
Abilify has some properties of stimulation
I have tried multiple different APs and none have improved my motivation. But everyone is different.
All APs induce some sort of fatigue in me, and I say this as someone high-functioning enough that I can intimidate neurotypicals. Currently taking Rexulti and I find it only sort of destroys my energy levels. I keep myself busy with to-do lists and projects. I’ve found over the years that motivation is more of a matter of habit than medication. Get in the habit of being busy and you’ll stay busy. My problem these days is to use my time more effectively.
