Is this even f%$king possible! Do these antipsychotics actually help with motivation!?!?
My motivation has been horrible lately, and it finally dawned on me - I actually had MORE motivation on 3 mg and 4 mg of Risperdal! I am now on 2 mg of Risperdal but my avolition - lack of motivation is horrible!
Today I f$%king lounged about - went no where, and had some energy first thing in the morning to shower and barely brush my teeth! Do these meds actually help motivation? I am really confused - got to tell my pdoc when I see her!

I think it may take a while for your brain to adjust to the lower dose. I’d say give it some time. Your dopamine is all whacked-out, and may just need some time to return to baseline. I know that it can take the brain 6 months to even out.

Yes Greg - I feel more pleasure and feel more connected, even my anxiety and depression has improved a bit - its just that my motivation has worsened. I think I read that these meds can help improve negative symptoms.
It might not be the meds after all! The negative symptoms could be coming from my illness!
I’m hoping for you that it’s merely taking a bit of time for the adjustment… I will be sending some hope out that it’s not negative symptoms.
It’s been so so long ago that I was on Risperdal I don’t remember if it did anything for my motivation… Please that that with a huge grain of salt… I was doing drugs and drinking heavily at the time…so of course it didn’t work for me. (I was so thick back then)
Do you ever feel more sluggish in the colder weather? Has it been colder or have you been using more energy then normal recently?
Yeah it has been colder and darker! I was surprised at how quickly it gets darker around here - yesterday it was like 445pm I looked outside and was shocked to see the darkness! I think it could be affecting me already.
I dont know if its the weather - it could be my diabetes? My family doctor said that high blood sugar levles can cause fatigue and low energy come to think of it. I am going to allow myself some time to adjust - in 2 weeks we plan on going even lower on the Risperdal. My doctor adjusts the dose every 2 months or so - I think thats plenty of time
