I get really bad akathisia, but I need to be on an antipsychotic. I was wondering…how do you deal with the akathisia. Do you take something for it? Is it mild enough that you can just suck it up? Do you even get it?
Im on Abilify 10mg and 50mg invega sustenna and I have no akathisia
I used to get it on invega but I took cogentin for it. Unfortunately, cogentin messed with my vision and invega messed with my prolactin levels so I switched to Abilify.
I had very bad akathisi when i was at 3mg risperdal, it was bad when i was on my feet talking to friends, i would always be on move, now i am on 1.25 and its much better. My sleeping has improved as well since i dont turn left , and right that much.
Glad to hear it mindwhisperer, I know how much that sucks.
I’ve never been on an atypical that causes akathisia. The old meds, well, they are a different story. Navane and Prolixin causes me lots of unbearable akathisia. All that helped me was massive doses of propranolol and Cogentin taken together.
I take procyclidine for akathisia. Not sure if this is the sme as cogentin. It helps.
Just FYI, procyclidine is no longer available in the US. Just thought I’d throw that out there in case anyone wonders.
i’ve taken propranolol (which was the best when my akathisia was the worst, for me was prolixin/fluphenazine injection), artane, and currently take cogentin. i have more problems with tremor/rigidity on haldol so the cogentin works better for me for that. i think all three have been for akathisia for me at different times with different things, if memory serves. i’ve also been told to take benedryl PRN for it in the past, too, but that stuff, oddly, levels me. out cold for sixteen hours at a time. which is weird because i take so many meds you’d think i’d be asleep always anyway, but only the benedryl, the one OTC thing, takes me down so quickly and for so long.
