Does akathisia get better?

I’ve been pacing in circles for a year now. The artane they gave me is 20MG which is high. It worked at first but it stops and I’m on propranolol and have tried cogentin. I have a kitten now from my mom and I don’t want to get rid of her but she walks under my feet a lot. I have accidentally stepped on her 4 times. I would hate to hear i should get rid of her because she had kept me feeling like I had something to live for. Anyone on a higher dose of artane or take something else for akathisia because accepting this side effect for the rest of my life shouldn’t be the only way to deal with things

Cogentin 2-4mg worked for me.
My akathisia was caused by Latuda.

I would try a different med

I must agree, ask your doctor about cogentin.
i had it until i started taking it

It only goes away if you eliminate or lower the dose of the drug causing it. I had it for a year and it made me so depressed. It finally went away when my Zyprexa was lowered from 10mg to 7.5mg daily. Invega shots gave it to me really bad for about six months after I quit them. I’m also on propranalol for it.

I didn’t even know akathisia was a thing 'til this forum(Thank you forum members). I paced for years on abilify, every time I told the pdocs about it they would say stuff like,“Have you tried not pacing so much?” Lol.

It’s the medicine side effect, it will never go away

Cogentin is the best.

I take Procyclidine 25mgs and that seems to have helped

I know you said you tried Cogentin and it didn’t work. How much did you take. I need 3 mg to stop my akithisia. You can take up to 6 mg of Cogentin. The other option is switching your med

I had unbearable akathisia with haldol and invega. I had to change pdocs to change aps now i’m on 1.25 mg zyprexa and i don’t have any akathisia just chronic fatigue.
