Antidepressant withrawals - how long?

Hi, im stoppinf my lexapro (been jumping between cymbalta, trintellix and lexapro). Main reason quitting is sleep problems. How long your antidepressant withdrawals lasted?

Honestly it all depended how long I took the ad and how much I was on. For example I was taking 200 mg of Zoloft and when I quit, I quit cold turkey because it made me go manic and it took a couple of weeks for the brain zaps to fully go away if I am remembering correctly. I used to go on and off Prozac to treat SAD type symptoms and the Prozac was a fairly low dose and I had no problems going on and off with no side effects.

Since you’ve probably been taking them sporadically and on a low dose they probably won’t give you brain zaps and your sleep issues will recover quickly.

I was on 75mg Effexor for about 10ish years, I can’t remember exactly but it was a long time. When I quit (cold turkey) I had 3 months of withdrawals, and they were awful. Hot and cold flashes, brain zaps, body zaps, and generally felt like crap.

Sertraline ruined my sleep for months!

Coming off Fluoxetine 10mg a week at the moment. Be on 0mg for a week before I start Venlafaxine

Venlafaxine is the other name for Effexor, read my post above. I had a hell of a time coming off it.

I wish you luck with it, but the withdrawals were hell.

My pdoc is fully aware that this is the end of the road. I told him no more after this one. Last chance to get it right or they can do one

Sometimes I feel the treatment can have just as bad effects as the illness

Took me years to find an AP that helped me, I am not prepared for continuous med changes for years more, I am done

Whatever happens with no meds, I’ll just have to cope

I stopped mine about a decade ago. I had brain zaps for a few months, and that was after tapering off. I’m back on an AD now - Celexa. It keeps away the suicidal thoughts for me
