My daughter is working on a business degree virtually (the college is online only this semester) right now and maintaining high enough grades to make the Dean’s roll again. She misses being around her peeps and being able to play D&D in person with them, so there is much whining about that. The online schooling mainly seems to inhibit her socially, not academically.

I took an engineering correspondence course. My books were mailed to me but my tests I took online. Seemed fine to me.

You can’t do labs online. Well at least in my program, physiology and anatomy labs.

I did a couple distance classes. They were fine. I’m sure they’re better now than they were 10 years ago.

I’m sure stanford, mit, harvard, and stuff can make virtual labs just as good or better than the real thing. But I’m going to go for computer science at western governor’s university. It’s like 7k a year and with financial aid it should be free for 2-3 years I assume. I have like 90 units at least already. So instead of needing to complete like 33 classes, I would cut it down to like 23. Mostly the general ed crap. I just want to get my programming up to date.

I think it’s reputable, accredited, and nonprofit. It’s better than nothing. There’s some good reviews on it. I don’t know until I try it out.

Check out coursera and edx to get your feet wet.

If I went anywhere else for a computer science degree, I’m looking at like 30-40k a year in debt. No way. I would go to a state school before that but I don’t know. I think online is the future and works for me.
