My life’s taken a big adjustment routine wise and it’s been very hectic.
She has learned walking. Gone from hating the lead to having 2 short walks a day now.
There are few potty accidents in the house. Maybe one every few days and I’m not using pads just taking her outside every 3 hours.
She wakes me up very early barking. 5am. This has to be overcome. I usually get up at 6. But I think until she is no longer in her pen at night there might be nothing than can be done.
She is very playful at times she is not sleeping (puppies sleep a lot and I try to catch a nap when she is).
She is also learning to be alone in the house while I go to my groups. This didn’t go down well at first but she seems to have adjusted and realised I come back.
It is hard work having a puppy lol. They are into everything. But so worth it.
Training a dog can be so hard…I badly failed w our last dog, but also I was 11 at the time so that’s on my parents for letting a kid be responsible lol.
She never ended up being properly housebroken or getting out of the barking late at night or extremely early in the morning phase. She drove my mom crazy for those reasons. She never seemed to be motivated to go outdoors vs inside. As for the barking at night problem it’s my parents fault because I told them they’d have to let her bark it out for a while until she learned that wouldn’t work and no one would come. But they’d always go let her out and my mom would even feed her sometimes which was like a reward! So.
@Anna it surely is hard. Last night was one of the worst barking nights for me. I let her bark it out. However if it’s close to the time (6am) where I’m about to get up, I just get up anyway but I let the alarm go off so eventually it will click that I do not come down until she hears that alarm.
To be honest the barking may not stop until she is no longer in the pen and is upstairs with me which won’t be until she can hold her bladder overnight and is potty trained (few months away) as this is likely an attention thing and wanting me.
Puppies do grow out of things.
It’s suppose to be like having a baby so your parents likely found it too difficult. It’s far from easy esp if they already had kids in the house. I have previously had a dog so I had an idea what I was getting into.
