Hello guys, I am just posting for those on Amisulpride to have your prolactin level regularly checked (e.g. annually). It is a good med but sometimes has side effects of increased level of prolactin which untreated can become rather nasty and contributes to the worsening mental health state. Take care!
Hi. Do you take amisupride? I used to take amisupride but had problem with elevated prolactin levels. Do know how to lower the prolacin?
Best regards
Hey @petar_pan I also used to take Amisulpride but had the side effects resulting in high prolactin levels. After I stopped taking it, after a few weeks it came back to normal. Is yours still elevated? Maybe you should talk to your doctor then? Untreated may lead to depression… Take care!
What were these side effects? How do they lead to depression?
@y76 I was told that by my doctor and also experienced it myself. Since I got off amisulpride my depressive symptoms disappeared; had been on it for 8years and experienced depression and terrible mood swings for the last two years or so. Of course not everybody has those side effects of elevated prolactin levels, I have heard it is rather rare. Currently my mood is stabilised, no more suicidal ideations and paranoia. This search provides some info: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10973108 Regards.
I take amisulpride 200mg daily and don’t notice any side effects except maybe no interest in sex. Sometimes also my breast leaks but not often. I have a depression problem but take olanzapine 5mg daily for that and it helps. Those two meds help keep me stable. The amisulpride calms my agitation and voices and the olanzapine takes me out my deadness.
@Hadeda As I said the side effects are rather rare… nevertheless I think it is worthy to bear it in mind and check prolactin levels annually… I am glad the meds keep your symptoms under control😊
Most doctors do annual blood tests on their patients where they check prolactin levels, blood sugar, liver functioning, and a few more things. If you’re taking a medication with known side effects, odds are your doctor is already monitoring you for them.
I used to take amisulpride a year ago. I was at 200 mg/day but had to stop because elevated prolactin levels. But now, I found this page:
This guy says that with this supplement you can lower elevated prolactin levels. I might try it some day. Does anyone have any experience with this or has the desire to try it?
Best regards
Then if you put a bet on my doc you would have lost😉 for 8years I didn’t have checked mine even once. Only due to other health problems it was tested… anyhow I did not mean anything by this post as just to make people cautious about that issue. As for me I have to ask my doc to make annual health checks, but I wasn’t aware that prolactin levels should be tested as well. Probably I am not alone. Regards
Wow that’s a scary thought. My doctor regularly checks me for all the side effects of Geodon. I even get an EKG every year.
I wouldn’t trust a website with zero scientific sources and advertisements directly for the product it is promoting. It looks like someone just trying to make money. Ask a doctor before trying any new supplements, and always buy from a reputable source. Supplements are not regulated or tested, so if you go with a bargain brand, chances are you’ll end up with something other than what it’s labeled as.
Good for you😊 here in UK mental health sector is called ‘cindarella of the NHS (national health system)’ so no surprise there… sometimes you get a good treatment but there is a higher chance that you do not😞
Amisulpride can rather dramatically increase prolactin indeed. Aripiprazole (abilify) is known to lower prolactin in many patients. Not sure about interactions with Amisulpride though. It was recommended as an add on to bench-mark med Risperidone.
