If you were a schizophrenic, you would already have a diagnosis. Causes most first time episode schizoprenics even dont realize that has sz.

I have a diagnosis, but I donā€™t accept it.

What do you hope to gain from making these posts? I feel like you are often questioning it on here? Am I wrong in saying that?

Do you feel like you donā€™t have any symptoms? If so - have you considered that is the medication working?
Also what symptoms have you had in the past?

Doctors have strict criteria for schizophrenia

I guess Iā€™m looking for clarity and perhaps for a way out.

I see your point but my outwardly behaviour is completely normal. Iā€™ve never had any encounter with the law. Not even when breaking the law.

Have you had symptoms in the past? Like issues with speech, cognition, delusions, hallucinations etc?

If you want my honest advice, I would get a second opinion if you feel like you desperately want one. If it would make you happier and more comfortable why not just go for it.

Either way, we are not in a position to rediagnose you even if we did agree with you. But at the moment you arenā€™t presenting a good case for why you think your diagnosis is wrong.

It seems to me, you feel like you have the wrong diagnosis, because you feel like you have the wrong diagnosis.

I had cognitive issues for a while but could have been caused by severe depression. No voices, just a few unusual beliefs some people might consider delusional.

I would say your mildly ill, just enough to cause a slight disturbance in thinking. I donā€™t know you well enough to know how your life is impacted. For example, are you able to hold down a job and maintain housing? Are you good about your hygiene including your teeth? Are you able to maintain healthy relationships with friends and family and community members? All of these things would be better evaluated by a professional who would then offer a diagnosis. You are looking for a way out? Why? Isnā€™t honesty more important than being comfortable with what you are labeled.

Well I didnā€™t have voices either, and I didnā€™t think my delusions were delusional until much later in my life. Even when people could point out flaws with my logic I still could only question them.

I have felt similar to you in that some more complex philosophy can confuse some people, but ultimately doctors arenā€™t stupid. Here you have to study for about 10 years to become a psychiatrist. They are gonna be able to tell the difference between a unique philosophy and a delusional thought.

We donā€™t have access to your medical notes to ascertain why they diagnosed you with sz.

Your posts are lucid, complex but not ā€˜madā€™. You are able to explain your theories well, but often delve into the unanswerable.

How you may have presented as a sz we are unable to answer. Could it have been self neglect, apathy, cognitive decline, thinking in knight moves, hallucinations etc.?

I mean given my posts do you think I am sz?

Has my life been impacted? I havenā€™t worked in decades but Iā€™ve always tried to rationalised it by arguing that I was choosing to live that way. I was only diagnosed a few years ago. I do care for my personal hygiene but havenā€™t cleaned my room in over a year. I can behave normally with people. Im just confused.

I was always into philosophy but since supposedly becoming ill I became obsessed with themes which were new to me, like theology, solipsism, simulation theory etc

Given your posts youā€™re saner and more lucid than most, crazy or otherwise, BUT youā€™re medicated. I donā€™t even take APs.

How did you make ends meet these last 10 years? How do you plan on continuing to make ends meet? Are you medicated while behaving normally? I lived within society as a normal person, without meds, with a career, and a relationship, and a child and I would just self medicate and fall apart on my time off. Itā€™s as if thereā€™s a switch in there that you flip to go into a sort of pretend mode. My problems came later when I wasnā€™t able to pretend anymore. I guess I got more severe, I donā€™t know, but anyway, If not medicated, do you plan on meds? And when are you going to ever clean your room?

@leaf I canā€™t really go into financial details of my past but Iā€™m not medicated and my behaviour always appears normal. Iā€™m currently receiving social security benefits (I donā€™t know the precise name). I have no intention of clearing my room, there is no point, and Iā€™m moving into a flat soon anyway. I guess Iā€™ve got too that switch you talk about, my unusual beliefs I usually keep to myself. Iā€™m not itā€™s an issue of severity but of symptoms, and not hearing voices or experiencing paranoia probably helps a lot.

Do you receive social security based on your diagnosis of schizophrenia?
