Everyone seems like they are on more medication than I am. My uncle died in a mental institution. I’m wondering if schizophrenia is a progressive disease and how likely I will need to be on more medicine one day. I only take 80 mg of Latuda and it works for me.
God I hope not.
I just got schizophrenia two years ago so I’m wondering if people started off on less medication or what
sorry your uncle died…
but i am not even on meds…
take care
I would like to know about this too.
I started with 5 mg Abilify then 160 mg Geodon
Now 80 mg Latuda
My schizophrenia symptoms flared up when I was 34. I am almost 41 years of age. I seem to be doing better the older I get.
I initially started off at 10 mg of Abilify. But then I was able to taper down to 5 mg. The only reason why I was able to taper down my dose is due to the fact that I metabolize medication slowly.
I had a similar concern like you. That I was going to need more medication one day. But then my psychiatrist told me that older people with schizophrenia past the age of 50 usually need less medication.
I started on 20 mg Zyprexa. Got strange reactions to it and changed to flupentixol 4 mg. I tried to quit meds but got psychotic. Changed to Abilify 5 mg. Did not get any change in psychosis until two weeks on 15 mg. After that I’ve had to slowly increase the dose to 25 mg today. I get psychotic symptoms breaking through. Maybe Abilify is not the right med for me. But I’m afraid to change.
I’m on a bunch of meds but I think that’s due to all the relapses.
