So with time we require less meds or meds become more effective? I heard that meds lose its effectiveness and we require higher and higher dosage. I myself was on Invega one dose and I relapsed hard inti psychosis after 6 years on it
For me, I think if my life was made stressful (like when I was working) I would need more or different or additional meds or might even relapse.
I don’t know if it’s true that schizophrenia gets better with time.
Not on it’s own anyway.
Maybe you find better coping techniques etc as time goes on.
Ive heard the symptoms are less as you age. I dont think you need more medicine.
Yes. I agree with coping mechanisms and age and experience and wisdom and holistic approach and all that.
This has been my experience.
I found I’ve needed far more meds as time went on. In 2013 I was on one med, now I’m on five at higher doses.
Yeah. I guess in the few years ive had medicine for it it hasnt gotten a ton better. I dont get paranoid as much but thats because i avoid triggers. Like cooking dinner is a trigger for me. I can do it on occasion but every night gets overwhelming
5 antipsychotics?
No two antipsychotics, two antidepressants and one mood stabilizer
I’m an elder and my sza has definitely gotten better with time. But that is only because of polypharmacy and excellent coping skills both brought about and learned with time.
I’m better with time.
For me the statement is true. I have come down with my ap and ad. I’m probably on the lowest I can go but my symptoms and general outlook has gotten better with time.
Come to think of it, the older folks on schizophrneia.com tend to be doing better than the younger ones.
I agree with you @Jayster.
Does schizophrenia really get better with time? Or perhaps on some level, you just get more used to being miserable.
In my case, I think its really gotten a lot better with time. Granted I’m on a shipload of meds. But my pdoc and I are going to be working on lowering some of those soon.
I think it is likely true in many cases that positive symptoms become less severe as people age. Negative symptoms are more questionable.
In my case it seems to have improved in all areas. I am on low dose meds with no positive symptoms and my “negatives”, if thats what they truly were, seem to have improved over time as well.
When I first saw this thread I thought to myself that if SZ were stored in a cask long enough and aged properly, it could possibly develop a full-bodied flavour with a hint of fruit aftertaste and a pleasant bouquet when served.
I promptly attended an AA meeting to be safe.
I’m on a low dose and my life situation changed so I don’t have the same stresses
