Alcohol and aps

Is this a bad combination?

it can damage your liver. never mix the two.

So I can never drink then?

I think he was probably saying not to take an AP and wash it down w/ vodka :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s plenty of people here that drink, as long as you do it in moderation I doubt it’s too horrible.

I used to drink, but then stopped when I started taking antipsychotics.

What about if I take my meds wait 3 hours and then have a couple drinks?

15 charecters…

@crimby might be able to enlighten you on this… I believe he was talking about his nails turning yellow amd stuff due to his liver not doing a good enought job.

That must have been someone else whose nails were turning yellow. That wasn’t me. So far I haven’t had that problem. A few years ago I was getting drunk three or four times a week. Right now I’m getting drunk around once a month. It will probably be the death of me. I’ve found that when I drink on anti-psychotics I get significantly weaker. When I lift weights I can’t do what I can when I don’t take med’s. I often wonder what I am doing to my liver.

hmmmm sorry for associating your name with that…

I’ve been on here so long I have no idea who it could’ve been.

I quit drinking 6 days ago this time knock on wood it’s for good…aps amplify the alcohol. So I used to drink 14-15 beers a night no problem! Now it was 6 beers and I was practically oding. Throw in some benzodiazepines and you’re on the verge of something bad. Which isn’t why I quit…I quit cuz I was sick of the lifestyle, sick of the drink leading me to doing drugs. Sick of the depression that made me wanna DIE…I could always go back to lethal combinations but thanks to naltrexone I have no cravings anymore and am the opposite of depressed.

Drinking is not really worth the trouble.

Oh I had such a nice time being disinhibited and flushing a little bit over a 14 dollar drink and a 3 dollar tip. There goes my money for this weekend.

Oh now I feel so much better going to bed. I think I’ll do this every night.

Oh now I need three times as much alcohol to feel the same, and I am used to alcohol before bed, so no alcohol means insomnia.

Oh now I am prescribed ambien for insomnia and I keep sleepwalking and wake up in bed with a bottle of NyQuil empty and the tv remote by my side, but there was no NyQuil in the medicine cabinet and the tv is downstairs.

Oh now I am in rehab because I was taking three ambien to sleep for six hours.

Oh now I am all better, I guess it won’t hurt to have a drink.

:no_mouth:

I broke one of my Cardinal rules just last night about not drinking while on meds, that is to say, I had a pint of beer. As a consequence, it kept me up all night. I’m functioning on zero sleep. For whatever reason, whenever I mix alcohol with my meds, I get over-stimulated. (Slaps self for drinking - don’t do that Greg, you dummy!!)

I drink from time to time, maybe once or twice a year. I hold off on taking my meds before I drink, I don’t like the idea of mixing them. I never drink enough to puke or pass out. It’s never done any damage that I’m aware of though I haven’t made a habit of drinking.

I would be careful of drinking when taking some of the more sedating meds like Seroquel. Also drinking while taking benzos is terrible and possibly fatal.

Drink responsibly and be safe.

Personally, I abhor benzos in their entirety. I don’t think they accomplish anything that can’t be achieved using a different class of meds, NOR do I know anyone who takes them as prescribed. They lead to addiction, and they’re dangerous in OD/mixed with alcohol/other substances which depress the nervous system.

I completely agree, so much that I could have written that exact post.
