I have akathisia from my medication, but I took 6 25 (150mg) Benadryls and it cleared up my akathisia. I’ve done this trick before, and it works well. Next time I’m going to reduce to 5 and see how many I need to combat the akathisia fully. I’m not your doctor, proceed at you own risk.
I think I had akathisia from my meds. About an hour after taking them I had urges to move and was fidgety but I couldn’t get relief. Instead of trying more drugs to deal with that I split my AP in half and took each half 8 hours apart. When I took all 60mg of Lurasidone it gave me the akathisia, but when I split it in half and took 30mg with breakfast, and then 30mg with dinner the problem went away (Lurasidone has to be taken with food.). Apparently my body can handle 30mg 8 hours apart but not 60mg all at once.
Latuda is weird. I’m not knocking it, but it’s…weird. But yeah, akathisia is the pits. Has driven many to suicide before.
Latuda has been a wonder drug for me. Once I got the akathisia problem solved it’s been great. No other side effects and my psychosis has been in complete remission for years. It’s the best AP I have tried.
Glad it works for you. I think it’s coming up on (in a year or 3) generic availability. The new meds with all their fondness for serotonin and other chemicals don’t work on me. I need something that purely hits dopamine, and hits it hard.
If you want an atypical that hits
The dopamine receptors then try
Solian (Amisulpride)
The sec strongest antipsychotics
After Clozapine.
My akathisia came back after about a year. Now I am taking 75mg of Trazodone for it. 50mg in the morning and 25mg in the evening. Works perfectly.
I take the Trazodone at the same time as my Latuda (30mg twice a day)
