Akathisia treatments not working

I have been suffering with Akathisia from all antipsychotics I have been taking for 2 years in my legs, arms, and spine and nothing has been helping. I have tried propranolol, cogentin, and ativan along with natural remedies like baths, compression, hot packs and cool packs and yet nothing seems to work still even dose adjustment. Is there any other options I could discuss with my psychiatrist?

I have this as well for more than 2 years. I live in a banana  country and i don’t have meds for akathisia.

I bet psychiatrists in my country don’t even know what akathisia means… My pdoc gave me Romparkin pill for anti-parkinson, but i’m not shaking, i’m constantly walking, my legs are in constant move. It didn’t work anyway… I might get flagged for this comment, or banned i don’t care, my problem is real

I’ve had days on an AP where I can’t stop walking. Had to change to a different one. I’m surprised akathisia doesn’t get brought up more often.

The two medicines I was prescribed for it were propranalol, which didn’t seem to help in my case, and benztropine, which does help.

The benztropine and propranolol didn’t do much of anything for me I’m just worried cause I’ve tried so many APs but can’t manage to function without them. I’m glad that things are working out for u tho it really is the worst feeling. It’s actually very common I’m not sure why it isn’t mentioned much either

I get bad akathesia and restless legs from most antipsychotics, I have found magnesium helps a lot.
I take liquid magnesium as tablets are hard to swallow and are not easily absorbed, an alternative is to have a bath with Epson salts.

I take effervescent magnesium, but does not work, i’m still restless

I was prescribed a drug called artane to help with akathisia that comes with abilify. It works very well and i don’t have to take a high dose. Also…it never gets to the point where it stops working.

I really don’t know. You would have to ask a doctor. But the gabapentin helped me where other meds did not

Perhaps this helps?

A randomized controlled trial conducted at the Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences compared the efficacy of vitamin B6 to propranolol for the treatment of antipsychotic-induced akathisia (AIA). The study demonstrated that there was no significant difference between vitamin B6 and propranolol in reducing akathisia symptoms, suggesting that vitamin B6 may be beneficial for improving antipsychotic-induced akathisia.

Nothing worked for me when APs caused akathesia either. The only remedy I found was switching to an AP that doesn’t cause akathesia for me. Talk to your doc.

I used to take a drug called Procyclidine for akathisia, it worked really well. It scared me taking it a bit because it’s used to treat Parkinson’s, but it really helped and I didn’t have any side effects.

They’re talking about it possibly being neurological and not akathisia even anymore. A little scared honestly

You can take more than one anti convulsions yes. But it might depend what your taking it for.

The only thing that has ever worked for me for akithesia has been ice packs to the legs and feet. Especially at night. I fall right to sleep.
