The moderators don’t forbid philosophy. Maybe one day I’ll make a tiny contribution to philosophy, something I’m known for that wasn’t known before. It would probably be pretty critical of the imagination!
I hope I can make contributions to the world of philosophy too
Who is everyone’s favorite philosopher? Mine is Epictetus, one of the Greek stoics. Short, sweet and to the point
I have a BA in philosophy, and i do miss it, but i felt it contributed to my ocd and psychosis, so i havent picked it back up since i graduated in 2016.
I got really obsessed with Zenos concept that movement is an illusion. So i consider him my favorite
Socrates is my favourite philosopher
Thanks for the heads up on Zeno, I had never heard of him before. I’m reading up on him right now. By the sounds of it, Aristotle thought very highly of him
Anvient greek philosiphy was one of my favorite classes. But i spent a few semesters studying wittgenstein. Interesting dude
If you havent yet, check out existential comics. Very funny and a great way to leadn more about all kind sof philosophers
Okay, now you have piqued my interest! LOL
I don’t know much philosophers things. But I’ve enjoyed some of Soren Kieregaard I’m not sure if spelt correctly as well as Hippocrates and Nietzche for saying that God is dead. Idk that just appealed to me. I must look into that lol
Yeah I did a BA in philosophy in 1972. Yeah, 50 years ago. Studied Plotinus and friends. Loved it.
“Thr unexamined life is not worth living”
OK, GREAT but at this point id like to stop examining every single thing
When I was 16 I studied philosophy at GCSE Level and I got 100 percent in the written exam. To this day I’m proud of that. I couldn’t quite believe it but I really did. I wish I did philosophy at a level Instead of German. I’m already German so it was just a dumb easy pass qualification
You have probably read as much as I have. I’m not an expert in the field by any stretch of the imagination. Nietzsche I found too dark
There’s always more days to read more
If you want.
I have taken it up as a sort of hobby slash part of journalling
That’s cool. Good idea
I’ve read precious little philosophy, so I am kind of driving blind. From what I understand of him, I like the philosophy of Epicurus. When he says the purpose of life is to live for pleasure I think he means to live for the simple pleasures, like the company of a friend, enjoying nourishing food, and enjoying the beauty of nature. I’m thinking that maybe the Romans distorted his philosophy to include excess. Maybe I’m wrong.
From what I know of it, I really don’t like Nietzsche’s thoughts on master/slave morality. If someone has an ocean of wealth and you have almost nothing, if your life is much less valued than your master’s, when you have to endure constant humiliation, of course you’re going to resent it, and you’re not going to feel bound by a morality that completely devalues you. I’m really put off by that philosophy, but it was from a different time with a totally different zeitgeist.
