Does everyone else feel so much adrenaline in their nerves.
I can’t even sleep well, from my high spirits,
Is this schizophrenia
Or some PTSD
Do you feel the adrenaline rush
I get that from coffee. Maybe stop drinking coffee if it’s a problem
I only had 3 yesterday
Maybe stop drinking it entirely and see how you get on.
Like @AhmShere said in your other thread, maybe you’re becoming manic?
Just rang and found out that it’s my PTSD
It can def be a PTSD thing. ■■■■■ up your nervous system. You can physically feel the adrenaline/cortisol in your body like fire. Doing yoga or other things to calm nervous system regularly has helped me manage it.
Cannot even sit still mostly
Wouldn’t be able currently
Had my second theorist appointment yesterday
Moving is good, very good
Maybe it’s akathisia.
Hey, what kind of yoga did you do for it, if I may ask? If you say it helped you manage it, did the spikes disappear? Or are they still there, but you respond in a better way?
Yoga is deeply frowned upon in some of my social circle, so I’m a bit nervous to try it. But I’ve heard people say it helps them a lot, for autism, for PTSD, etc. There’s a billion different styles though, from superrelaxed to extremely active.
So far I have just gone along with Yoga with Adrienne videos on youtube. I started with some beginner videos/yoga specifically for PTSD and then did some 30 day courses. I try to do a video every day, no matter what it is. If I don’t, I feel the difference. If I stop yoga for a while I go back into a PTSD episode. It is really wild how effective it is. I use it as a substitute for anti anxiety medication I was on, and I find it more effective. It just took a while of doing it consistently to feel the effects. I do it every morning. Whether I do an active or relaxed one depends but both arr equally effective.
Why is yoga looked down on in your circles? It scientifically works because of how it engages nervous systems. Being mindful and doing deep breathing while stretching your body activates the relaxed parts of your system. There is a famous book you may have heard of, The Body Keeps the Score, about PTSD. He has many cases in that book where yoga is one of the things that facilitated recocery for patients and breaks down how and why these things work scientifically. Highly recommend the book.
Pardon the textwall, I am just glad you asked. Yoga has been the most major factor in managing physical symptoms of PTSD for me and I seriously could not recommend it enough.
Edit: forgot to say yes spikes are still there but less intense and I respond better because I have way more body awareness.
4 years ago, before I started Invega, I had the highs. The very highs.
Hey, that is so interesting. I don’t mind text-walls, I write a lot myself too, because my mind loves detail. So no worries.
I love how it helped you. Thank you. My social worker gave me TBKTS. The guy is Dutch (too), and very respected here. I loved the book.
I’m not sure how to answer the “why not” question without being kicked off the forum. My social circle is diverse. Partly very liberal. Partly very conservative in various directions. In certain circles they have a problem with the spiritual background of yoga. It makes me a little scared, that the spiritual side of yoga, will trigger my creepy religious delusions. I think this is an ancient tradition, and the physical side could help me loads and loads…but I became nervous of experimenting with such things. When I do not exactly know what they will do. Wards are no fun. Same for my own tradition. I even walk out in the middle of a service, when the topic scares me.
Not disciplined enough for videos. Maybe I will call a yoga center. And ask them how they work.
Sorry, I’m not trying to offend anyone, rather discuss the problem that is a barrier to trying something that may help my psychiatric problem.
Those reasons actually make sense to be wary of it- luckily a lot of yoga is completely secular and has no mention of spirituality in it, even in practice centers. A lot of people treat it like a general health thing, so if you ask around you can probably find teachers who keep it totally secular. Also if you do end up looking into any of the science perhaps that will help solidify that its totally a mundane practice- all the good effects from it are explainable and really come from your own body. (Not pressuring you to do it of course, but if you do end up considering I think you’ll find ways to practice it really accomodating to you). Best of luck
Thank you…
I think yoga centers here vary a lot. Some are very secular and almost like a fitness club. That may work for me. Some are very spiritual. Most a little in between. I absolutely believe there is a scientificly proven physical benefit to it. I think I will contact a few places that look very down-to-earth. I think even actual fitness clubs have yoga classes…maybe that would be the best start. And I think I will request a good talk first.
That sounds like a great plan
The local fitness club has yoga groups.
They have a sauna.
I can do fitness.
And I can do all sorts of groups. Because the groups are included in the price, I can easily look around.
