Great points. I think I will try and live by those standards/the full NA program. Staying clean is more important to me right now than expanding my social circle.
I was sober from alcohol for five years after my ovarian cancer.
Then I drank a few months then I was drunk and vomited on my x new kitchen and didn’t want to loose him so quit again and didn’t drink alcohol for about three years.
I have drunk about three times last year and that was just three or so drinks at home by myself.
I was a binge drinker and got in trouble not knowing where I was or how to get home.
My favourite was ecstasy.
I used to take ecstasy weekends only for partying.
I never took drugs or alcohol daily though.
I also tried cocain ,amphetamin, lsd, marijuana and that’s it I think.
I was also a smoker.
I don’t want to drink around other people ever again.
I’m really trashy tacky when drunk ha ha ha and I don’t stop till I don’t remember a thing and crawl because I’m to drunk to walk.
I got clean in a group home in 1990. I wandered downstairs one night and discovered there was an AA meeting being held there in the dining room. It was only about six people but they invited me to stay.
My drug of choice was crack but they didn’t care.
I started attending every Tuesday night. I liked it, they were real cool people and friendly. So that’s what I count as my sobriety date.
I still remember this one guy. Kind of a tough guy. He always said at every meeting when they asked him how he was, “Well, I haven’t killed anyone–yet.” It was serious but it was also funny.
Anyways, that was January of 1990, so that makes 31 years.
Thanks @anon71432064 @Truemist8 @77nick77. I enjoyed reading your stories.
Congratulations on the 31 years. That’s awesome.
Five years sober. That’s great. Stick with it.
Yes, I’m clean and sober for a long time. I’m happy about that!
I finally said to my sponsor that I might not be able to stay sober because I was unable to be honest.
He assured me that I was honest enough to stay stopped drinking!
I’ve been sober for 7 years.
My pdoc said drinks last in body for 48 hours
Still today I think why did he even say that, because having engery drink also make my thoughts imbalanced .
10 years sober never ever to go in that direction.
Thanks @Jayster @jenny480 @anon89422488
clean and sober for the last 25 years
The problem is that the booze seems to fertilize them. You sober up and look at your problems and, “oh, there are more of you and look how big you all are now!” Blech.
I’ll never trade the problems I have in sobriety for the much worse ones I had when I drank. Except maybe for my in-laws.
