If a sauce says ‘use within 4/6/8 weeks etc’ do you throw it out when it’s been opened that long? As a single person if I did so I’d be chucking out quarter/semi used bottles and jars of sauce. I’d be spending a fortune on sauces.
IDK, when I was a kid my mom defrosted chicken and beef out on the kitchen counter. After Thanksgiving we ate leftover turkey for more than a week. If we got a ham it sat in our refrigerator for a week. I don’t even remember seeing “best by” or “use by” dates on food items when I was in high school.
Now, if you want to go with what the internet says, you never defrost meat out on the counter, you do it only in the refrigerator. You’re supposed to throw cooked leftover turkey or ham away after 3-4 days and now there’s 4 or 5 variations of warning labels on food items.
As to your sauces, I would look up the individual expiration dates for each different product on the internet and see how long their good after that date. For instance, oyster sauce is good for 6 months. But soy sauce may have a different expiration date. And Worcestershire sauce may have a different expiation date than both of those. And barbecue sauce my be different than those three. Salad dressing is good by a certain date. Hot sauce stays good for a long while. There’s no set expiration date for all sauces as a group as you know. How many sauces do you have?
Apple sauce, horseradish sauce, cranberry sauce,Worcestershire sauce, teriyaki sauce, onion relish, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, onion chutney, mayo, balsamic vinegar, Caesar dressing.
Thank you. I’ve saved that site.
