I have my appointment tomorrow with my new psychiatrist its in the afternoon. I’m nervous, I’m afraid she will put me back on haldol which was hell on earth to withdrawal from but there are other meds to try I just don’t want to go back on any of the meds I’ve already tried.
Good luck with ur appointment …!!! Dont worry it will turn out good…!!!
In my opinion, haldol is the worst antipsychotic out of all of them. It’s very old and a first generation antipscyhotic. It causes a really large amount of EPS or movement disorder side effects. If someone is on it and doesn’t get EPS they are lucky. Personally, I think haldol should be banned.
Haldol is my favorite AP ever! It has completely turned my life around. I love it so much. I never thought I could be this stable.
I’ve had good luck with haldol and it’s super cheap.
Some people like it. I have had akathisia and dystonia in the past from a first generation antipsychotic. If it works for you, good. I still think it should be banned though. The side effects are horrific for some people! Like getting dystonia when your walking around in the street!! That happened to me and other people!!! Ban it!
Never ever!!! If only you knew!
What dosage were you on I’m only on 4 mg once A day
I’ve never taken haldol before. But I was forced to get Clopixol injection, a first generation antipsychotic. Never have I been so sick in my life!!!
I honestly can’t tell the difference between haldol and risperidone
You are fortunate. 4mg a day is a low dose. For those prone to getting EPS it can be hell.
I’ve had problems with Haldol, but it works wonders for others. I don’t think any of the meds should be banned just because certain people don’t do well on them. Every one reacts differently to different meds.
I was on 30 mgs a day
By that logic, all atypicals should be banned because of their awful side effects, too. I can’t take atypicals, so ban them all! Amiright?!
I wouldn’t go that far as too say ban a med that helps some people and not others. The haldol helped but the high doses kept giving me side effects and didn’t help completely.
I wouldn’t say ban then either. @Prophet was saying it should be banned so I was just pointing out how ridiculous that was.
Also, if you liked the haldol other than the side effects you might try the injection. I’m able to take a much higher dose on the injection than I was in oral pills and it made all the difference with much fewer side effects.
I tried the injection for about 5 months it wasn’t helping as much as the doctor said it would help, then after being discharged from the clinic because of Medicaid cab scheduling and failure to pick me up. I couldn’t get the injection. I went through withdrawal it was pure hell.
I don’t see why you have to worry …isn’t it up to you to make the final decision. …it is in the UK anyways they can’t put me on any type of AP that I don’t want to they just give me their recommendations and then I say which one.
@Prophet, what did you do for your dystonia? How did you overcome it ? can you pls share?
