A little bit of hope for recovery

The majority of people with schizophrenia get better over time, not worse. For every five people who develop schizophrenia:

  • One will get better within five years of experiencing their first symptoms.
  • Three will get better, but will still have times when their symptoms get worse.
  • One will continue to have troublesome symptoms.

So there is a lot of hope to get better. 4/5 people with sz get better. I don’t know what study they are using though.

A friend of mine her made a joke about that. The joke was something along the lines of, they stop being schizophrenic and are rediagnosed as schizoaffective. Can confirm, was originally diagnosed with schizophrenia paranoia am now diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.

I really hope that’s not the case. I still don’t know whether I’m sz or sza. Is sza less severe?

It took me like 6 years to recover, not 5. I’m still sick and disabled, but I don’t feel mental agony and pain like I used to. It’s gone. I had severe DP/DR 24/7. I couldn’t see outside my eye balls. I couldn’t feel anything. I suffered from severe solipsism.

I would rather have neither. But prefer having a mood disorder along with a thought disorder. Makes life even more interesting.

Haha. Seems true. I thought the supplements did that for me. What a joke!

I still drink energy drinks. If I didn’t. Maybe I would have gone a lot further in my recovery!

Ya the bipolar part is nice, I guess. Having hypomania or mania makes life a little more bearable sometimes…

Ah don’t worry about it so much! Just remember that you’re not defined by your mental illness. That is not what makes you, you! To answer your question, my psychiatrist and many others in the medical field have told me schizoaffective disorder has a better prognosis, meaning people with schizoaffective disorder fare better in the long run. Usually, comparing illnesses here is discouraged as it sometimes becomes a discussion about who is suffering more. This place is for support, having been diagnosed with both schizophrenia paranoia and schizoaffective disorder in my lifetime (albeit at different stages) I can safely say, it doesn’t make much of a difference.

I definitely prefer mania to depression any day.

Never heard someone say bipolar is nice lol. I know Kanye West said it was like having a super power. I’ve only been manic from drugs I’ve taken and I really enjoyed it.
