That’s so scary. I hope psychiatrists start being more thorough in looking for physical causes of psychosis as a result of these patients stories
In this article, if its true, then definitely it stated the medical diagnosis of schizophrenia.
I am not doubting.
Thank you for this article! Every bit of knowledge I can gain can only help with my quest to help my daughter.
@TruthSeeker , do you have sz? How old is your daughter?
Wander how much people with psychosis are suffering from an autoimmune disease.
I agree. I spoke to several people who had underlying physical problems. Like B12 deficiency. Or celiac. Or people who were cured by progesteron or thyroid hormones. These people had been ill for a long period, before they were finally helped. And I suspect oftentimes it is not discovered. And people spend their lifetime in wards. Because docs don’t do some simple screenings.
I told docs for 8 years that I needed a test for dairy intolerance and other intolerances. They convinced me that was a crazy thought. And refused testing. And refused to allow a diet in the ward. In december they finally cooperated. I was right.
My problems are not fully gone. But it makes a tremendous difference. A cheap little blood test was all that was needed. I suspect it saves the state a huge amount of money, and people a huge amount of pain, if they standardize such testing.
I’m glad you finally got the test you needed, but I’m sorry it took so long to get it.
My grandmother had mental illness and lupus. She was committed to a mental hospital and died there.
Thanks. It took a bit of radical action to force them into helping me. But now we are solving the actual problems. One by one. Would have been a whole lot easier, had they responded when I kindly asked though.

Believe it or not, Thomas Smith, the guy mentioned in the article, was my pdoc for 7 years. He couldn’t fix me. lol.
His final combination was Clozapine plus Risperidone. My combinations are side effect free
So, how do I know if I have an autoimmune disorder or schizoaffective? How do I get tested?
I want to know how to get tested too
When my drs suspected I had an autoimmune disorder, they ran blood tests , and came back negative so they ruled that out
What does dairy got to do with psychosis?
There are many links between diet and psychosis. In some people food intolerance causes not only physical issues, but also psychiatric. If I have dairy I get fatigue. GI trouble. But also emotional turmoil. And I am (thus) more sensitive to delusions. This effect also happens when “blinded”. So when there is a small amount of milk in candy, but I didn’t know, I notice by my symptoms. If I binge on the candy. It is always correct.
I’ll try find a good article, but I am with son now, so I’m going to be kind and attentive.
What test did you take, and how’s your symptoms after treatment with diet, how long are you off antipsychotics? I was just told I have lactose intolerance when young and couldn’t eat pasta as well
Any idea what they checked for?
Blood test. I was done waiting. So I ordered my pdoc to do a test. And what for. And then after I got the paper, I checked a few extra boxes myself. That I thought useful. I thought he wouldnt mind, told him with a joke after
I also did elimination dieting (few foods). We suspect a few other intolerances based on that. Need further testing. But suck at dieting. And doing blood draws.
I quit haldol in May 2022.
I find it hard what is the diet. What are other improvements (e.g. finally getting help with family/trauma). And what is haldol damage wearing off. I saw huge improvement in…
- GI symptoms
- Deficiencies (iron deficiency cleared up without supplementation, so GI tract is probably healing and taking up nutrition better).
- Fatigue
- Cognitive/executive/negative symptoms.
- Delusions.
- Emotional dysregulation.
- OCD.
It is not 100%. F.e. I’m still sensitive to certain trauma triggers and can fall in delusions then. Strict dairyfree does improve a lot though. Few foods even better. We just do not know which are the exact culprits.
