Autoimmune and Schizophrenia

I was reading a few articles about the autoimmune system and psychosis and they said that there is a link between them, so my question is when someone becomes psychotic and goes to the hospital do they check for these kind of things?

I know that a lot of people here have auto immune problems including myself, I seem to have developed psoriasis a year ago and was wondering how do I go on about talking to my psychiatrist about getting tests done?

Have you ever talked to your psychiatrist about getting a test done to check for these kind of things? If so what happened?

Here is a few of the links to the articles that I read.

As you can tell from reading these that there is a way to fix some of the mental problems in a % of the population with psychosis and other diagnosis by “cleaning the blood” and using some steroids etc.

I have an autoimmune disorder, several in fact. We discovered that before we found the sza. They thought it was just depression way back then.

Hi there. I have been doing alot of research myself trying to find ways to help manage my condition. Have you ever heard of the theory of overactive micro glial cells causing brain inflammation and in theory may be part of what causes schizophrenia.
If you are curious go to sites like national institute of health and read more on topics like this.

Drs never check for physical illness when people appear mentally ill. I know this from experience on many occasions. Btw, every time I’ve gone to the ER for physical problems the drs would initially blame it on mental illness even if I was screaming in pain. Eventually, they found out it was physical each and every time.

I never get sick, not even as a kid.
I never missed any class due to illness like other kids

@LilyoftheValley, I feel your pain. I have had to fight tooth and nail because psychiatrists refuse to look for a medical cause to my issue. I go to a neurologist and get treated for fahrs on top of my so called mental illness. My psychiatrist totally irritates me and just blantaly tells me that my rare progressive illness is not valid concern for me to be upset about. This really makes me mad. How is a severe and progressive illness like fahrs something to not be at least a little worried over.

I’d try to get a new pdoc if I were you. That’s so wrong of your doc to say it’s nothing to worry about. Are you able to get s new pdoc?
